'11 D.C. DT Kevin McReynolds (UCLA Signee)

It's unfortunate, but it's not as if he didn't know the situation. It was pretty obvious that one of Bennett/Hale/McReynolds was going to get left out. Just turns out that Bennett and Hale were ready to commit first.

I disagree. I tend to believe when you have as many bigs in this class as we do already then you have to know that it is a first come first serve type of class. I am sure our staff would love to have Kevin but the truth is we needed one more DT and we got one. If it had been Kevin then great if not then whomever we get is wonderful too. These recruits have to know that this is a numbers game too. Best of luck to Kevin, Go Bucks

I am sure that McReynolds was aware of what the staff was thinking before Hale committed, and he was just beat to the spot. He seems like a great person and player, while I wish there was room in this class for McReynolds, I think this is purely a numbers issue. I have heard we may have about 22 schollys this year. We already have 5 DL committments on board, close to 25% of the class. I think higher priorities for this class are:

  • 1 or 2 LB's: (Vaughters/DePriest/Crowell)
  • TE: (Vannett)
  • WR: (Story/Dorsett/Wynn)
  • 2 or 3 DB's: (Tanner/Grant/Goman/Lyons/Kirby)
  • 1 or 2 OL: ( Walker/Mangiro)
Also, the DL class in state for 2012 sounds like it will be as good if not better than the 2011 class. Why not save some room and pick up some of these studs next year.

:oh:

BN$--McReynolds Chase Over

Doesn't sit too well with me. Not the fact that we didn't get the commitment, but that he had to talk to a secretary to find out there was no more room.

I'd be absolutely shocked if a secretary has the responsibility of informing recruits that a position is booked..

JT = managing every minute detail = no secretary with that authority.

Not happening. Verified.

I see that McReynolds has quite a few visits scheduled for the remainder of the summer. Not sure he would have committed in the next month, even without Hale making the decision for him. But you never know!

I don't like that he had to find out from a secretary, but sometimes that's unavoidable, I guess.

Best of luck to Kevin. This is just not one of those years where the recruit holds all the cards and can force the staff to wait on them.

ETA: Just saw what Grad said about secretary delivering the news. That makes me feel better.

Thanks Grad.
These are the kinds of posts that put to rest rumor and speculation, restore the dignity of an honorable coaching staff and also make BP the class of recruiting websites.
Well done!

Scout.com: McReynolds Looking For Buckeye Clarification

The Bank get's the scoop... hasn't heard any official word from OSU coaches. Called Tress, and he wasn't in, secretary chat sounded like "small talk" not official... him or Coach will try back tomorrow. Will officially visit Oregon and UNC for sure.

Okay, thanks for the clarification. Link on BN wasn't clear at all and didn't seem like a Tresselesque move.
