On the Hoof: Thomas has wide shoulders with a very lean, muscular frame. His build is similar to Florida State running back Chris Thompson, but Thomas is a tad taller.

Needs Improvement: Must add 15 to 20 pounds of muscle mass in order to carry the ball more than 15 times a game. If he is to end up at corner he will need more time working at that position.

Most Impressive: Thomas has excellent hands out of the backfield, and could actually be a slot receiver if he chose to. His speed gives him a chance to score any time he touches the football. He is a versatile athlete that could return punts and kicks or play either side of the ball.

Conclusion: Should play early in his career because he is dangerous in space and is the ultimate homerun threat. Even if he ends up on the defensive side of the ball, which will take longer for him to crack the lineup, he will get chances to touch the ball either on special teams or designed plays.
ESPN evaluation said:
Thomas is one of the fastest and most dynamic backs in the state of California in 2011. His great speed, feet and athleticism coupled with his smaller size may have several programs recruiting him as a defensive back. Corner may be his best position in the future but he's currently a potential game-breaker on offense. Flashes great burst out of his cuts, initial quickness and suddenness through the hole. Can slice and slide through the small creases and is extremely quick and slippery to wrap up. Has great change-of-direction skill, feet and hips. Makes sharp, decisive cuts at full speed without gearing down. A game-breaker in space but he doesn't waste many lateral steps. For a slighter back he's not afraid to square up his shoulder pads and hit up inside the tackles. Shows he can pull through occasional first contact with his tightly wound, quick-twitched body and determination. Best asset at the next level will be his speed. Displays good burst to the outside and the acceleration needed to turn the corner and separate. An aggressive ball-hawk on defense with great instincts and anticipation skills. Flashes great range in deep coverage and down in the box as a run supporter. Jumps routes very quickly and closes the cushion with great short-area explosion and burst. Great momentum allows him to play much bigger as he's a strong tackler who runs through and displays good pop on contact. At this stage the main question mark on Thomas would be his size and durability to play running back at the next level in a full-time role. Projects to be more of a change-of-pace runner or multi-purpose back to at least start of his career. Receiving skills will need some polish as well as his technique in coverage if employed at defensive back. Overall, Thomas is a great competitor with speed to burn and a potential asset in all three phases of the game at the next level.

We can fantasize, it's fun. But this guy isn't ending up anywhere other then USC.

I don't know man. USC got the "assume the position" order from the NCAA, and according to This ESPN Article, USC only has 3 players in the top 25 of the conference. I can really see them struggling this year and next, which means that recruiting will also struggle, especially with the limits they have.
On the other hand, our program looks pretty loaded. Seriously, we're in the prime of our program in my opinion and we have a lot to offer. I've always said that if we can get a kid to come visit us, we have a great shot at him. Going up against the likes of USC or Washington or whomever doesn't bother me as much as it normally would have.

BTW, this kid is a stud. Easily one of the best tapes I've seen this year. I like him almost as much as I like Darius Jennings

I have to agree Sphincter on this one, there's a slim to absolutely no chance this kid comes to OSU. All the factors that you've listed are all well and good but there are a lot of LA kids that don't care about the sanctions and will still go to USC regardless, and this kid is one of them. He will probably be off the main thread soon, since this is even more than a pipedream. It'd be nice to land him but not realistic

Thomas heads north

Five-star athlete De'Anthony Thomas made a surprise and relatively secretive trip to Eugene, Ore., last weekend. There have been reports that the Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw standout is close to switching his commitment but that is premature at this time, according to sources.

There are a few things that might hold up a switch: Thomas doesn't like being too far from home and he especially doesn't like the cold weather. Also, the five-star standout is extremely close with Keyshawn Johnson, so making a switch so quickly could be difficult to do.

Victor Blackwell, a fellow USC commit, said he doesn't believe Thomas would make the switch. The two talked about Thomas' visit to Oregon, about the facilities and all the Nike influence there, but still Blackwell feels Thomas is sticking with USC.

There had also been rumors that Thomas was trying to lure five-star wide receiver George Farmer from USC and to Oregon with him, but that chatter was quickly squashed Sunday night when a source close to Farmer said there is absolutely no way Farmer would do that. The source said Farmer, rated as the third-best player in the 2011 class, is definitely sticking with USC.
