Memphis University School football coach Bobby Alston knew he had a talented quarterback after Barry Brunetti starred in last summer's National Select 7-on-7 Championships in Alabama.

But when Duke University head coach David Cutcliffe was the first to offer Brunetti a college scholarship in January, let's just say Alston was even more convinced of the 6-2, 208-pound Brunetti's potential as he approaches his senior year.

"I thought he was good," Alston said. "But, more importantly, I thought when coach Cutcliffe gave him his first offer, well, there's a guy who's coached both Mannings (Peyton and Eli).

"He knows a whole lot more about it than I do so I'll take his word for it."

Ranked a four-star dual-threat quarterback prospect by Rivals.com, Brunetti has since received offers from Chattanooga, Marshall, Mississippi State, Tennessee State, Tulsa and the University of Memphis.

He's also drawing interest from Auburn, Florida, Ohio State, Oregon and Georgia, where he made an unofficial visit Thursday.

"It's good knowing a lot of people want you," said Brunetti, who accounted for 1,955 total yards and 36 touchdowns (18 rushing, 18 passing) as a junior to lead undefeated MUS (13-0) to the Division 2 state title.

"I mean, when I was little and I used to see my friends in the neighborhood getting recruited a lot, I used to always tell my mom that I wanted to get recruited one day. She prayed about it, and once I started getting recruited, it was a blessing."

Barry wants to hear more from tOSU. He admires the job tOSU and Tress did with Troy Smith.

Copy and paste his name into youtube and you'll see two clips of him. One that is like 10 seconds and one that is about a minute long. Looks pretty quick and has a live arm. The film is limited and not of the best quality but from what I've seen he looks like he is worth the coaches interest. IMHO of course.

And as a sidenote Troy Smith really left a good impression in recruits minds! That's a good number of recruits who mention him when they mention Ohio State.

Yep and it's only going to get better when Terrelle Pryor leaves his legacy :)

Your right, we already are DB U, are in the mix for WR U and LB U...with Troy having won a Heisman, Terrelle as a household name, and Miller being the next great prospect in the next few years we coud also be Dual Threat QB U.

Quarterback Barry Brunetti (Memphis, Tenn./University School) had perhaps the best two-day run at the Elite 11 and Nike Camp of any other signal-caller. Brunetti holds offers from Mississippi State, Duke, Memphis and others. He also is getting heavy attention from Arizona and Auburn has shown interest. Chances are, Brunetti will see a slew of offers once word gets out about his ability. He's athletic, has good feet and an excellent arm and showed all of that off during the weekend.

Coast-to-coast notes: Big-time programs seeing past QB Brian Brunetti's lack of ideal size - ESPN

Memphis' Barry Brunetti will not leave anyone with an appreciation for good quarterback play singing the blues.

Brunetti is one of the fastest-rising signal callers in the nation and has the attention of multiple major programs after a stellar junior season and a solid spring showing.

The 6-foot, 205-pounder had nearly 2,000 yards of total offense last season at University School (1,251 passing and 704 rushing) and 36 total touchdowns (18 rushing and 18 passing), which along with impressive film got him on the radar of several programs, including Mississippi State and new head coach Dan Mullen, who knows a little something about top QBs. Mullen coached a No. 1 draft pick and quarterback of an undefeated team (Alex Smith of Utah), a Heisman Trophy winner (Tim Tebow at Florida) and two national championship quarterbacks (Tebow and Chris Leak at Florida).

Then Brunetti was one of the top quarterbacks at the Elite 11 regional workout in Athens on April 24 and was the top quarterback at the Athens Nike Football Training Camp the following day.

"As far as this class of quarterbacks is concerned, (Brunetti) would be receiving a lot more attention if he were a few inches taller," said Scouts Inc.'s Tom Luginbill. "Nevertheless, this smooth, athletic passer possesses a live arm, quick release and just enough athleticism to beat you with his legs. Of all the kids we have seen this spring, he possesses some of the best RPMs of any passer in this class."

Though he does not have the lengthy offer list that many quarterbacks possess, he has gotten more attention since that weekend in Georgia. That, along with schools coming to the River City to check him out, has made for more offers, including ones from Penn State and West Virginia.
"I was very excited about getting the offer from Penn State and Joe Paterno," Brunetti said. "I haven't decided when I am going to go up there and visit, but he's one of the best coaches in the history of college football.

"With West Virginia, I like what they did with Pat White. I also like their coaches. I am looking forward to getting up there for a visit. They came by my school recently."

The lone Southeastern Conference program to offer has Brunetti's attention. "Mississippi State has had an offer on the table for me for a while," Brunetti said. "I love coach Mullen and I talk to him all the time. I think what he is doing there is exciting."

He added that he believes Oregon and Ole Miss are close to offering. The Rebels' proximity to Memphis and Houston Nutt's success at the school during his first year would make them an attractive choice, he said. But right now, Brunetti said he's focused on Penn State, Mississippi State and West Virginia.

The descriptions of his game sound kind of similar to Tahj Boyd. I find it kind of curious that Kiffin dropped Boyd because he didn't fit their system and now they're recruiting Brunetti.

Kiffin later tried to recruit Boyd after cutting him loose, he didnt know he was actually more of a pocket passer. Way to stereotype Kiffin!

From everything I been reading about BB I think with an offer we could be hard to beat...

"I hope and pray that I get an offer from Ohio State," said the 6-foot, 207-pound quarterback. "I know how their recruiting goes and they offer people one by one and that's just how Ohio State is. I am just hoping and praying that the next offer could be me. I have always been interested in Ohio State and it would put them right at the top."

Found that on a UT board...
