'10 OH TE Alex Smith (Kentucky signee)

Bearcats out, Lions in? -

The Nittany Lions would love to land West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West linebacker Jordan Hicks, the Buckeye State's No. 1 prospect. Penn State offered Hicks a scholarship long ago, but their odds of landing him are not great.

However, they may stand a better chance of landing Hicks' teammate, tight end Alex Smith. The 6-foot-5 and 225-pound Smith committed to Cincinnati during the winter, but it is not a done deal he will be a Bearcat.

"I haven't de-committed," Smith said. "But I'm going to visit some of the 20 other schools that offered. I committed to Cincinnati early and I haven't really seen any other schools."

can't really see how he would even be considering Michigan with the type of offense that Rich Rodriguez runs.

You'll probably see UM and RR use the tight end more so than any other time in his coaching career this year. RR's been visiting with Stoops in the past, working on getting the TE involved in the offense. We saw a small wrinkle of it in '08, but we all know the qb situation didn't allow for much success in the passing game.

I know CoachBT has sold you guys on the "Trojan" package that RR is installing, but I'm telling you now, a tiger does not change his stripes. Using two tight ends and the tight ends in the passing game is not how RR knows how to win or how he likes to win. He likes his 4 wide, slot dots who can scamper.

I honestly don't know how Alex Smith is considering UM if he wants the ball. UC, Kentucky, literally anywhere in the nation would get him the ball more. But I get the feeling that the BBQ impressed him enough to put UM in the game.

I hear ya. We'll see how the season turns out for UM. I'm sure quite a few recruits are waiting for that.

Koger and Webb are arguably the best athletes on the team. It would be dumb if Rich didn't use them. Back to Alex!

Alex says he is still committed to Cincinnati but will continue to look around. He says he would likely consider tOSU if an offer came through but he still wants to see numerous other programs including LSU, PSU, and Miami.
