Hughes will play quarterback - for now
Posted by Kyle Neddenriep

Kofi Hughes will play quarterback for Cathedral High School this fall. Whether or not he plays the position in college is still to be determined.

Cathedral coach Rick Streiff said Hughes, who has received a scholarship offer from Indiana as an "athlete", could play quarterback at the next level. Streiff tinkered with the idea of moving him to receiver, but talked himself out of it.

"He's probably as good of a wide receiver as there is in the state," Streiff said. "But we want to have the ball in his hands 50 times a game instead of 15 at the most. It was kind of a no-brainer for us."

In his first year as a starter, Hughes ran for 1,289 yards and 17 touchdowns and passed for 930 yards and eight TDs. Streiff anticipates "several more" offers coming Hughes' way.

"He's a guy who's going to be able to get on the field somewhere," Streiff said. "I think he would like to play quarterback, but he's a bright young man and knows he can do a lot of things well."

The staff has visited and is recruiting this player, so I thought he should be on the list. Since the visit from tOSU staff, his interest level for tOSU has jumped.

Saw him play last year against Carmel High. Nice athlete, certainly not a quarterback on the Ohio State level. They run a flexbone offense, and he can make some plays from that formation. Navy should take a look at him. Reminds me of that Enhada guy they had at QB the past two years.

I saw that game as well and came away impressed. For his first ever start at QB he actually outplayed Carmel's QB who was very highly recruited. I will be interested to see how he progresses this year.
