M.L. King RB Mack Brown gets praise from UGA coach Mark Richt

By Michael Carvell | Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 07:14 AM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

M.L. King?s Mack Brown, who is considered one of the nation?s top tailbacks for 2010, said he smiled after hearing his evaluation from UGA coach Mark Richt.
?Coach Richt said ?Mack, you?re a helluva? back? ? I was laughing,? Brown said. ?That meant a lot to me.?
Brown is one of the state?s leaders in early scholarship offers with 15, including Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia Tech. He also had a recent conversation with Tech coach Paul Johnson.
?Coach Johnson said he really wanted me to come visit the campus so we could talk,? Brown said.
Brown said he tentatively plans to visit UGA and Georgia Tech after school later this week, and then travel to South Carolina on Saturday. He is thinking about Tennessee on Feb. 28.
Landing a marquee tailback is one of UGA?s top priorities for its 2010 class. The Bulldogs only signed one tailback last week, ECI?s Washaun Ealey, who told the AJC last month he was ?close to meeting college entrance requirements.? Georgia Tech already has one commitment at running back for next year, Charles Perkins of Collins Hill.

If he doesn't choose us, I hope he chooses Paul Johnson's program.

Something about Richt rubs me the wrong way, and Johnson will definitely be getting his runningbacks a ton of footage for NFL scouts to look at. Plus Paul Johnson is the man.

Georgia reserves No. 33 jersey for M.L. King RB Mack Brown

By Michael Carvell | Thursday, February 19, 2009, 05:36 PM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

M.L. King?s Mack Brown, one of the nation?s top tailbacks for 2010, said Georgia has promised to save the No. 33 jersey if he signs with the Bulldogs.
Brown, who has 15 early scholarship offers, including UGA and Georgia Tech, said the issue came up during a recent conversation with Georgia running backs coach Bryan McClendon.
?[McClendon] said I could keep my high school number in college, if I wanted,? Brown said. ?I thought that was pretty cool. It let me know that Georgia really wants me.?
At Georgia, No. 33 is worn by rising junior tailback Kalvin Daniels.
Brown said UGA is one of many schools that have promised to reserve No. 33 for him. ?I can?t remember all of them, but I know Florida said that ? and so did Oklahoma.?
Saving jersey numbers for elite prospects is a common recruiting practice. Tight end Orson Charles of Tampa, who is one of the nation?s top unsigned seniors, said Georgia reserved Matthew Stafford?s No. 7 jersey for him, while Lowndes cornerback Greg Reid (who signed with Florida State) said he was promised Knowshon Moreno?s No. 24 had he picked UGA.

M.L. King RB Mack Brown gets hefty praise from Florida

By Michael Carvell | Thursday, March 12, 2009, 03:20 PM

Florida coach Urban Meyer wants very badly to sign M.L. King?s Mack Brown, one of the nation?s top tailbacks.
Brown said he was pleasantly surprised by some of the things Meyer has told him. ?Coach Meyer told me I was the No. 1 target at running back. Then he said I was the No. 1 overall athlete on their entire recruiting board. I couldn?t believe it. When he said that, I was like ?for real?? He said yes. I told him thanks and that it meant a lot coming from him.?
Brown has nearly 20 scholarship offers, including UGA and Georgia Tech. He said he grew up a fan of Florida and Georgia, but claims no favorites.
?That meant a lot coming from [Meyer]. He?s the coach of the national champions. He also knows about all of those Florida prospects. That?s exciting to hear from him.?

Pass that on to Genron.

As a gator fan, I think it's asinine of Meyer to say that. Meyer has this strange infatuation with big backs with speed, and has recruited a bunch of big, fast stiffs since he's been at UF. They tend to have no vision, no agility, and no balance, but Meyer would jump all over them just 'cause they're big and fast.

Eyeball him? Geez, with that list of offers, pretty sure he passes the eyeball test..
