'10 FL OL Chaz Green (Florida Signee)

Cotey: Tampa Catholic High lineman Chaz Green's talent has everyone talking

TAMPA ? Halfway through the highlight film ? the arrow points him out ? the ball is snapped and Tampa Catholic High School's big No. 75 is on the move.

He takes on a double team, and dismisses it as if the players were traffic cones.

Head up, legs churning, hips swiveling, he searches out the linebacker and finds his target, then manhandles him.

Running back Hank McCloud flies by for a big gain.

There's more of Chaz Green's highlight film, if you want to keep watching.

"You can turn it off,'' says the college football recruiter, who has seen enough.

Bob Henriquez laughs when sharing the story. It's the same spot in the video, every time, with awed recruiters seeing what the Tampa Catholic coach sees every day.

"Chaz Green is going to be an animal,'' he says. "His potential is limitless."
His college future already secure, Green hopes to choose after visits to Ohio State and Southern Cal. He is leaning toward Florida at the moment and wouldn't mind getting the decision out of the way so he can focus on his senior year.

Recruit says UT 'just trying to understand the rules'
By Dave Hooker
Posted December 28, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. - Chaz Green has a theory as to why Tennessee's football program has drawn the ire of the NCAA.

"They're just new to the process, the NFL guys," the 6-foot-6, 290-pound offensive lineman from Tampa (Fla.) Catholic said Monday, referring to UT's coaches. "There are a lot of rules they need to catch up on that they're not sure about. That's really the main problem. They're just trying to understand the rules of college football."

The Vols have tested those rules twice since September. The NCAA is reviewing UT's possible misuse of hostesses and the Vols also self-reported a possible violation to the SEC concerning a recruiting intern, who may have met with prospects, which would be a violation of NCAA rules.

"It hasn't really affected me," Green said of the negative publicity. "I know what kind of school they are. It's something to think about and worry about, but at the same time I know that they're not really doing anything wrong."

Much of Green's opinion on UT comes from his official visit to Knoxville in October. Green had heard about UT's brash young coach, but found a far different Lane Kiffin once he arrived on campus.

"Everybody was flipping out about it, but after I went up there, Lane Kiffin, he's a good coach," said Green, who is one of 88 players selected to participate in Saturday's Under Armour All-American Game.

Green is set to visit Florida and Southern California in January. He visited Ohio State in September.

TC's Chaz Green, considering Vols, stunned by Kiffin move
By BILL WARD | TBO.com
Published: January 14, 2010

TAMPA - When Chaz Green's father woke him Tuesday night to tell him the news of Lane Kiffin's surprise coaching switch from Tennessee to the University of Southern California, Green thought he was dreaming.

But once he shook the cobwebs, Tampa Catholic's Green realized it was no hallucination. Kiffin really was leaving Tennessee, the school that was Green's slight favorite in the hunt for his services on the offensive line. And to Green's dismay, Kiffin was heading to another school that was one of his finalists, USC.

Green's other two candidates are Florida and Ohio State.

"I was surprised because I didn't think that was a main option for a head coach," said the 6-foot-5, 295-pound Green. "It did surprise me he would leave after a year."

Chaz really gets no discussion here. If he gets a sour taste in his mouth like some other recruits about Lane, that could bode quite well for OSU. Florida's class is filling up rather quickly too.

Interesting point.

Is there a thread on BP that talks about where Florida stands with scholly counts, who they'll wait for no matter what, spots left, etc.? If not, does anyone know?

New USC brass to visit T.C.'s Chaz Green
Posted on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010 at 1:15 p.m.

...
Chaz Green will also have an in-home visit next week from Ohio State coach Jim Tressel. Henriquez said. Ohio State was Green's first official visit in September, when he attended the Buckeyes home game against USC.

on another site they said fla had 3 spots left and were recruiting like 7 or 8 studs. would like to have that problem.

Not to get into too much UF talk, but if they have already told Jackson Jeffcoat, a consensus top 3 player, we won't have a spot for you... guys like Hicks and Chaz may mutually eliminate UF because of numbers.

I saw Chaz play in the Florida state HS Championship. He stood out like a sore thumb. He was road-grading defensive lineman.

He literally would drive players back a good 5 to 7 yards and into the ground.

He's a quiet guy, and I don't think he likes playing games or the coaching carousel.

I wouldn't give up on him just yet, it's a long shot yes, but crazier things have happened.

That probably won't be the case, considering we still have needs at OL and LB. We'd like to get one more WR as well. We already have 6 DL so we didn't need Jeffcoat, but we'd like to have 1 OL, 2 LBs, and 1 WR to round out the class.
