Prep Report - Hillsborough Sports - from TBO.com Blogs

Add the University of Southern California to the list of colleges who have made official scholarship offers to Tampa Catholic juniors Christian Green and Chaz Green.

Trojans coach Pete Carroll came to the central Tampa school earlier this week to make the offers to Christian, the Crusaders star quarterback who passed and rushed for a combined 1,921 yards and 20 TDs last season, and Chaz, a 6-foot-6, 275-pound lineman who helped make those stats possible for Christian. As close as they are, the two Greens are not related.

Both Greens have already received offers and/or interest from other major programs, including Florida and Florida State

"It's a pretty big deal to have nationally-recognized players like that at Tampa Catholic," said Crusaders coach Bob Henriquez. "The recruiting for them is going to be crazy around here next season."

Tampa (Fla.) Catholic offensive lineman Chaz Green is one of the country's best. The Buckeyes have offered Green a scholarship and he is interested in Ohio State.

"I just talked to coach (Jim) Tressel a couple days ago," Green said. "I called him on Sunday. I'm going to try and get up there over the summer. Coach Tressel said a lot of guys end up committing after they come up for a visit."

The 6-foot-6 and 295-pound Green has a dozen scholarship offers including Ohio State, Florida, USC, Florida State, Miami, South Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Michigan.

Green played defensive tackle his sophomore season at Palm Harbor University. He transferred to Tampa Catholic and played offensive right tackle and some defensive tackle during his junior season.

Green is being recruited as an offensive lineman.

Evaluation

Green is a prospect with a potentially bright future. Right off the bat he intrigues you with his size as he definitely looks the part. He is a big kid with ideal size and an impressive looking frame. He oozes raw athleticism and displays exciting upside. His hulking size would lead you to believe he excels at this point as a punishing run blocker, but he actually seems further along and more comfortable as a pass blocker. He can quickly get set working out of a %u201Ctwo%u201D and %u201Cthree%u201D point stance. Displays the ability to kick back and keep his weight on his post foot. Displays that he can kick back with an angle step to a spot and establish position. Displays the ability to play with solid knee bend and will use his hands to punch. He has a good reach and can deliver a jarring blow and flashes that he can set with low hands and punch from low-to-high to minimize the chances he will miss. Displays the ability punch and help inside before sliding out to his man. He can get a little top heavy at times and can leave his arm exposed. He has the size to take a power step and sit down and thwart the bull rush. As a run blocker he flashes the ability to control a defender and drive him off the ball. You can see his physical nature when he blocks down and can engulf a defender and wash him. He gets hands on and plays with solid leverage, but you would like to see him get better hand placement and generate more power from his hips and get them under him more. He can tend to leave space between him and the defender and with his size and power you want to see him strike and smother the defender and lock on and drive him off the ball. He has good feet and the ability to react and adjust to moving targets. He moves well for his size, but needs to work on the angles he takes and go where the defender will be and not is. At times you see a lot of effort from Green, with minimal results when he gets in space. Green is a kid with nice ability. His natural athleticism and size can lend to him playing early, but there is still some work to do and a red-shirt would greatly benefit him, but displays the tools to develop into an outstanding college tackle.

Watch List lineman Chaz Green names favorites

ESPNU 150 Watch List offensive tackle Chaz Green told affiliate Web site Bucknuts.com, "I have about 20 offers. Florida, USC, Tennessee, Ohio State and Georgia, those are the main schools I'm focusing on."

He continued, "Florida is my top choice right now, then USC follows them. Most likely I'll decide by the fall. I want to commit by the fall, but then I'm thinking about still taking official visits. I'm about 100% sure if I take official visits one of them will be to Ohio State."

Several other programs such as Florida State, Miami-FL, LSU, Auburn, West Virginia, Michigan, Notre Dame and South Florida are also recruiting Green.

Yes, Chaz, the women up there really are that beautiful. Much better than anything you'd find in Florida or SoCal.

Rivals.com ranks Tampa Catholic?s Chaz Green, a senior this fall, as the 21st-best offensive tackle in the nation.

TAMPA ? Tampa Catholic rising senior offensive tackle Chaz Green still has plenty to learn on the football field.

He didn't play a full game last season until mid October because of a high ankle sprain. And he had never even stepped on a field until two years ago.

"I haven't played a whole lot," Green said with a smile.

Now, the 6-foot-6, 295-pounder is one of the most prized offensive line recruits in the country, with high-profile schools such as Florida, Florida State, Southern Cal, Georgia and Ohio State offering scholarships.

"His rise has been meteoric," Tampa Catholic coach Bob Henriquez said.

It wasn't long ago, however, that Green considered himself a basketball player.

"It took for me to stop growing," Green said. "I cut off at 6-6. A couple of my friends said I'd have a good body for football, and I just thought I should try more sports."

TC's Green favors Gators: For Tampa Catholic offensive tackle Chaz Green, last weekend's Friday Night Lights at the University of Florida was a unique opportunity to show what he could do against some of the top defensive end prospects in the nation.
"I think I held my own," Green said.
But Green's visit to Gainesville also re-emphasized the Gators as his favorite.
"It made me want to be there," Green said. "You saw how hard they practice just for 30 minutes. It showed you how great a program they have. They're still my favorite."
Green, who rated as the top offensive lineman at the Friday Night Lights event by Rivals.com, said he wants to make official visits to USC and Ohio State, but he used the weekend to tell the Gators they're still his favorite. "They definitely know where I stand," he said.
