Clearly. Florida speed is indeed so fast, that voters didn't get a chance to actually see any of the players on the field, and therefore could not rank them...mainly out of fear.

To be accurate, there were only 20 teams ranked that year. FSU was 8-2 and #15, lost their regular season home finale 10-13 to Florida to drop out of the top-20, then won the Gator Bowl over Bobby's former West Virgina team 31-12. They were #13 in the final AP poll after the bowls.

In 1989, the AP switched to a top-25.
