#1 vs #2 in the AP poll over history (regular season and bowls)

Don't you mean #2 vs. #3. After that impressive 4 point win against an unranked team, the voters really will have no other option than to move Notre Dame into the #1 spot.:sick1:

Yea, well when ESPN is pumping you, and hype is at an all time high, Touchdown Jesus is capable of doing anything.

They shouldn't be #2 to begin with, and after they lose the next 2 games, ESPN and the media will be screwed again.

That's what happens when you give the national title to USC for 3 straight years, and then revert to selling them out once they lose. Same will happen with Notre Dame.

Only thing I fear is that if Notre Dame loses OSU will get the idiotic hype. Although somehow I think mushmouth will not seem so emphatic as he does for his ole university.

This should be a #1/#2 game, in all polls. Texas deserves to be #1 until they lose, in my opinion. They deserve it. When we beat them on Saturday, then we should get the nod for #1.

If Notre Dame plays at the same level against TSUN they won't be undefeated long. Mind you, on the other hand, IVoyd is coaching...

I don't know what I would give to see the Big Ten be undefeated against Notre Dame this year. I don't think it will happen, but I would really like to see that.

Three #1 vs #2 Matchups this Season?

Here is something to think about. OSU already played Texas in a #1 vs #2 game earlier in the season. Now, if Michigan and OSU win out going into 'The Game' and a few other teams lose a game, The Game could potentially be another #1 vs #2 matchup. Which would probably be one of the biggest OSU-Michigan games ever. Now if OSU wins that #1 vs #2 matchup, OSU would be playing in another #1 vs #2 matchup in the National Championship.

As far as i know there have never been this many #1 vs #2 matchups in a season, let alone the same team in every one. Just something to think about.

Only 8 times has a team been involved in a pair of #1 vs. #2 games in the same football season (note - this uses AP poll rankings of #1 vs #2 only).

The same #1 team has now beaten a pair of #2 teams in 4 different seasons:

1943 Notre Dame.....defeated #2 Michigan, and #2 Iowa Pre-Flight
1945 Army..............defeated #2 Notre Dame, and #2 Navy
1971 Nebraska.........defeated #2 Oklahoma, and #2 Alabama (Orange Bowl)
2006 Ohio State.......defeated #2 Texas, and #2 Michigan, lost to #2 Florida

Only 4 other teams have been involved in a pair of #1 vs. #2 matchups in the same season:

1963 Texas.............defeated #1 Oklahoma, defeated #2 Navy (Cotton Bowl)
1986 Miami..............defeated #1 Oklahoma, LOST to #2 Penn State (Fiesta Bowl)
1987 Oklahoma........defeated #1 Nebraska, LOST to #2 Miami (Orange Bowl)
1993 Florida St.........LOST to #2 Notre Dame, defeated #2 Nebraska (Orange Bowl)

Thus, only 4 teams before 2006 had ever won a pair of #1 vs #2 matchups in the same year, and all four won the National Championship.

Jan. 01, 1963 - No. 1 Southern California 42, No. 2 Wisconsin 37 (Rose)

Note - there have been a few games between BCS #1 and BCS #2 teams that did not own the top two spots in the AP poll when they played.

In 2000 and 2001, Oklahoma and Nebraska met when they were #1 and #2 in the BCS (both times after the first week of the BCS rankings). They were #1 and #3 in the AP in 2000 (#3 Oklahoma won), and #2 and #3 (#3 Nebraska won) in the AP in 2001. Also, the BCS title games after the 2000, 2001, and 2003 seasons featured games between teams that were not 1-2 in the AP poll. After the 2000 season, AP #1 Oklahoma defeated AP #3 Florida State; after the 2001 season, AP #1 Miami defeated AP #4 Nebraska; and after the 2003 season, AP #2 LSU defeated AP #3 Oklahoma.
