Northeast's Stokes is drawing attention

By Tyson McCloud
Inquirer Staff Writer
Northeast wide receiver Je'Ron Stokes turned a lot of heads this season. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior hauled in 28 receptions for 617 yards, shattering the previous school record of 420 yards. He also scored six touchdowns.
Stokes had caught the attention of several big-name colleges, including Florida, Miami (Fla.), Ohio State and Penn State.
Now, he can add Notre Dame to the list.
Fighting Irish assistant head coach John Latina talked to Northeast coach Mel Hinton during a visit to the school Tuesday, Stokes told Rivals.com.
"He expressed how interested they are and they love my film," said Stokes, who also received a visit from North Carolina State last Monday.
The majority of Stokes' production came before he suffered a hamstring injury, which caused him to miss three games at the end of the season. The receiver, who played alongside his brother, freshman quarterback Malik, after transferring from Penn Charter, hauled in 20 receptions for 170 yards and five touchdowns during his first six games of the season.

Film.

My Take: Good looking athlete who plays bigger than his 180 lbs. On offense, he catches the ball well with all hands and is aggressive going after it. Im not sure about the 4.4 speed that is listed...at least on offense. I like him better on the defensive side. He showed a LBs mentality in a DB body and changes direction very well. His ball skills are excellent and he shows a very impressive break. I like this one.

when a kid says Illinois is standing out, someone should point out their offer of a scholarship isn't worth much because they have offered 1,689 other kids.....

Sounds like Urban Myer's MO... actually Zook offers a scholarship and says we will even give one to a freind of your choice if he is a 2 star player.

Illinois has approximately 23 offers out for the 2009 class.
Ohio State has approximately 18 offers out for the 2009 class.
