'09 OH RB/DB Darrell Mason (Ft. Scott Junior College Signee)

That's a great update for the Buckeyes. On the one hand, there is a lot that could happen over the next few years that could make him look elsewhere. On the other hand, Derrell could quite possibly have an official offer in his hand in about 2 months and could end up being one of the first commitments in next year's class. Tressel's reputation in Youngstown should make the Buckeyes really hard to beat whenever he makes his decision.

Out of curiosity, I wonder who the 2 RBs at the OSU camp were who were better than Mason. Any of the insider types here have any idea? Was he competing with the juniors (Torrence and co.) also?

Ursuline junior draws raves
One publication names
running back Darrell Mason the top junior in the state.

YOUNGSTOWN ? Meet Darrell Mason.

He's 6-foot-1, 215 pounds. He rushed for 503 yards as a sophomore for Ursuline last season.

Mason reportedly was named the top junior in the state in this month's issue of Ohio High magazine, which means this promising young player is about to be known state-wide.

"It's nice, but I can't be that flattered," said Mason, who seemed a little embarrassed when he heard the news this week. "It just means I've got to work even harder to stay on top.

"You know someone else is always working."

"I like the pressure, so I don't care about that," Mason said. "I believe in myself."

Mason, who plays running back and safety, came on strong toward the end of last season, finishing the year with four touchdowns, 58 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and 21/2 tackles for loss.

hey do you guys think he's a fast linebacker or a big strong safety? i want him to be a linebacker but im pretty sure he'll end up a SS just because 09 is stacked at linebacker, i dont think he has quite the second gear to play runningback but hey you never know he might get faster being that he was only a sophmore. but you gotta love how aware he is on D tho and how great a tackler he is.

Right now, so do I. In 3 years, he's probably gonna be a linebacker. He's already 210lbs as a HS Jr...

I like him as a "Speed" prospect...

Still, i cannot help but see Donte Whitner whenever I see Derrell. I would assume he receives an offer early on. We could a very fast start to '09 withi Whiting, Klein, Simon and Mason... who should all eventually end up being Top 100 players by the end of the recruiting season.

Whiting, Simon, and Mason are all on Rivals 100 to watch in 09 list that just came out. No Klein though.
