Nicely commits to BG
Tuesday, August 19, 2008 From staff reports
A campus where he felt comfortable and a chance to compete for a starting job in 2010 were enough for Willoughby South quarterback Patrick Nicely to give Bowling Green an oral commitment Sunday.
Nicely (6-4, 215) said he will redshirt his freshman year.
"That will put me in a spot to compete for being the starter for four years," he said. "They have a very good quarterback tradition and I can go in and compete for a starting job."
Nicely, who lives in Eastlake, said he felt at home on the campus. He also considered offers from Ohio University and Akron. He is undecided about a major, but is considering a career in orthodontics.
Nicely passed for 1,700 yards, 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on a 3-7 team last season.
QB Nicely changes mind
Tuesday, December 16, 2008 From staff reports
Willoughby South quarterback Patrick Nicely has withdrawn his oral commitment to Bowling Green and is considering Toledo, Akron and Ohio University.
Nicely made an official visit to Toledo last weekend and plans to visit Ohio later this month and Akron in January.
"It went real good," he said of the Toledo visit. "They have a new coach, Tim Beckman, and he's real nice and all about family. He was [the defensive coordinator] at Okla homa State and used to be at Ohio State. They're going to run the spread exactly like Oklahoma State."
Nicely (6-4, 215) committed to Bowling Green in August, but withdrew the nonbinding pledge recently after coach Gregg Brandon's contract was not renewed. BG hired former Tennessee offensive coordinator Dave Clawson on Friday.
