'09 KS RB Bryce Brown (Tennessee one-n-done, Kansas State one-n-done)

The fast will consist of the Wichita, Kansas, running back living on nothing but water, tomato soup, vegetable juice and protein beverages for the duration of the ritual.

Having eaten at the student union at the Univ. of Miami on a few occasions (though many years ago), I can tell you most of that stuff (except for water) ain't on the menu. So if he winds up doing much fasting there, he's gonna have to get his food off campus.

If he sees OCBW's Baconator thread, he is a Buckeye!

BRYCE BROWN TO CANADA?

Posted by Mike Florio on February 5, 2009, 1:47 p.m.
Back in 2001, I envisioned that Vince McMahon?s XFL eventually would court high school players.
It never happened, primarily because the XFL lasted only one season.
Since then, the NFL has slammed the door on high schoolers, via the Maurice Clarett lawsuit and subsequent clarification of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which expressly requires any new player to be at least three years removed from the graduation of his high school class.
But there?s a new alternative ? and it?s not the upstart UFL. Instead, tailback Bryce Brown could be headed to the CFL.
The news come from the New York Times, and it?s a product of the musings of Brown?s ?manager,? Brian Butler.
?If they were talking about any amount of real money, I?d guarantee it,? Butler said. ?We?re not playing around. I can promise you that. I?m not scared at all to do anything, and Bryce isn?t either. Hey, he?ll hurt your feelings. He?s not worried about your feelings. He?s worried about what?s right and what?s wrong.?
Butler also mentioned a CFL team paying $5 million per year for three years.
The only problem? The CFL has a salary cap of $4.2 million per team. Per year.
Brown, who graduated from Wichita East High School in December, said in early 2008 that he?d attend Miami (Fla.); he also is considering Oregon, Kansas State, Tennessee, USC , and Auburn.
So while Brown might be worried about what?s right and what?s wrong, we wonder whether Butler is.

Hey, now. He's a team player. He just prefers the other players on the team to be Canucks.

Canucks who are paying a combined $800k to keep the team under the $4.2M salary cap while Brown is making his $5M.

Why in the world would any coach invite this kind of trouble into his locker room or program?

This kid is a true talent but it's just not worth it.

We had our own kid with baggage a few years ago if I recall correctly.

Brian strikes me as the kind of handler who would complain to the media about the coaches if he felt the coaches weren't using Bryce right. Pretty much the same way Noopy's handlers did Coach Matta.

I think he wants some benefits from whichever program Bryce chooses.

Coaches need to put the lockdown on this street agent/handler/hanger on crap. Brown could be a good kid, but he's picked a real piece of work to be his "representative". Schools should say "enough is enough" and pull the offer, IMO. Once a few guys lose out because they picked the wrong jockey to ride them, the message will be out there.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - National Notebook: Horns get a jump on 2010
(free)

Now that the smoke has cleared after National Signing Day, almost every recruitnik will focus on five-star running back Bryce Brown, the nation's No. 1 player. Brown, from Wichita (Kan.) East, decided to wait things out and didn't sign Wednesday.

As to which schools remain on his list, that's not clear.

"Every day is one step closer, and I am still deciding on where I will be taking my final two visits," Brown said in a news release posted on his mentor's Web site. "After that, my family and I will spend some time in prayer and the decision will be made.

"National Signing Day is the beginning of the period that runs until April, and I didn't sign on the first day. I was surprised that so many people were making a big deal about me not signing on the first day of the period. No one has to sign on Feb. 4. This is the biggest decision of my life, and I am not 100 percent at peace about any school, so I decided to wait."

Brown said before NSD that he still was committed to Miami, but Auburn, Clemson, Kansas State, Oregon, Tennessee and USC remained in the hunt. There also were reports that Georgia and LSU were trying to secure one of Brown's visits.

It's going to have to be the NCAA or even Congress that puts a "lock down" on street agents. The coaches can't do anything. And some coaches/teams have been "dealing" with street agents/handlers for years.
