Update on his senior season...top 5 of Florida, Ohio State, Cal, Texas A&M and Northwestern.

gee, theres one school in this list that seems out of place. who could it be?

...and on a more serious note, why are they IN the discussion? Is he looking for something specific academically?

Cal is a top notch school as well. Maybe he puts a little more weight on this factor than most recruits.

I'm sure the both of you were using your sarcasm font, especially Muck, but to be on the safe side I was speaking of Northwestern :P

Not as much as you'd think (although certainly somewhat  ).

Has A&M really been a better football destination than Northwestern over the past decade?

Cal's a step up on the academic scale as well so it's obvious academics are at least somewhat of a concern for him.

Northwetsern also has a great young coach and excellent recruiter/motivator in Pat Fitzgerald...Northwestern really put together one of the better yet more underated classes last year, IMO.

While I did take all of those into consideration(mainly academics) I too thought of the young heralded coach that I can see alot of kids latching onto in regards to recruiting...but just the tradition and overall program prestige is where I was thinking.

But with Cal and Northwestern, academics definitely came to mind.

Finally some Rivals film (although it isn't enough to do any further evaluation)...first my initial video recap:

Junior highlights on both sides of the ball.

Kid looks like a stud on offense...film reminds me a bit of Floyd's in that he can work on the edge as a true wideout, can work the slot, works well in traffic on slip screens and also has the speed to be effective in HS on the end-around. Like to see a little better use of the hands on receiving the ball, but does a great job using body position on corner routes. Very smooth running style...shocked this kid doesn't have more offers, but I bet they will be coming. There is a reason OSU and Florida have offered.

Defensively, shows good instincts at safety. Fairly solid tackler who will come up and provide solid run support. Certainly looks like more of a free safety at the next level, but plays up strong in HS. Regardless, I think his future is on offense at the next level. The kid is just a great looking football player.

One clip on offense and one on defense. Would love to know where we stand with this kid...I'll see what I can find out.

I know Scout's database/profiles are usually wrong, but he is listed as visiting OSU on Jan. 26th.

Scout $

1/9

Confirms his visit on the 26th to Ohio State. Top 5 is Cal, OSU, Florida, Northwestern and UCLA. Ohio State is recruiting him as an athlete and does not have a preference on where he plays. Distance is not a factor.

Much like Keith Wells, you can tell Martin is a very well educated and well spoken individual. With an official offer, a scheduled official visit, family ties, etc. I could see bringing in Martin in this class. I have not heard much from the insiders about our chances, but I would imagine they are high and will only get higher once he steps foot on campus.

Oh yeah, plus....

A few weeks ago, there was no room, but with the Cordale Scott defection, there now may be an opening for another WR/DB-type like Bayless or Orhian Johnson. Bayless is definitely interested, and the Buckeyes are at least interested enough to bring him in for a late visit (a la Brian Robiskie and Donald Washington from the 2005 class, and those guys turned out all right).
