'08 OH TE/DE Kevin Koger (Michigan signee)

Crap.

Good Luck to Kevin.

In a way I am not shocked, just saddened a bit, but I kind of figured this would happen.

I hope he gets the early play time that he is looking for. Honestly, He would have had to really work hard and earn it as a Buckeye. He will be a nice target for Mallet in any case.

It was interesting and suspensful to say the least. I just wish it had a happy scarlet and grey ending. Oh Well.

We are still interested in Blake aren't we. Even though it is a long shot.

Now you are saying you kind of figured it would happen? A few days ago(sunday)you said it was OSU . I made a statement about not paying attentiion to the quotes of recruits and you insisted you could. I also stated that I thought he was going to UM and others quickly dismissed that thought. I've seen this same situation play out countless times in the past.

I never had a great feeling about Kevin. This may sound bad... but, I think the tight end position is one of the lesser worries of recruiting. I think it's definetly important in an offensive scheme, but I'd have more heartache over losing a top rated lineman, quarterback or running back. It's just less of an "impact" posistion.

I would be interested to see if they even go after a TE now. With the needs at DL, WR still needed to be addressed and already having Ballard (future stud) & Miller for a few years and Nicol and Smith for 2 more. I say this opens an extra scholarship player, as we don't really have another TE interested worth brining in really... add in the fact that Stoney can maybe slide to TE for some plays.
If it was TE that the coaches were only considering for Kevin, and they were looking at no other TE candidates you would be right on the money.

As the title says though TE/DE - Koger may have been courted more by TSUN as a TE, more as a TE/DE (perhaps even DE emphasis) at tOSU.

The second part - other candidates, well they did host Blake Ayles from the West Coast quite recently. Seems like they might still have an interest in a TE. Though I must not discount Jacob Stoneburner, already in the fold and on some boards rated higher than Kevin Koger as a TE.

That said good luck to Kevin, every Saturday in football season except when it is "The Game."

I'm talking about the ones we offered and did want like Rudolph, McCarthy, Koger, and Zordich.

Here are some reasons why that although we offer Ohio kids, some won't pick us:

koger (tsun): from toledo, raised a scummer, father a skunkbear.
mccarthy (nd): legacy kid, catholic.
zordich (psu): legacy kid.

Every year I keep hoping they will use the TE more, but it doesn't happen. OSU views the TE as little more than a glorified guard not a true skill position player. There is nothing wrong with the TE's we have, we just don't use them enough.

Oh well.dont sweat it.thats gonna be the last good player michigan will get for awhile.

I don't know about all that, but it sounds good....

Anyways, I'd rather lose to Michigan in the months of February thru August than at any other point. We are losing occasional kids to Michigan, but it's not like Michigan is turning around and beating us with them .

Now, as I unsubscribe to yet another thread, back to Kevin....

Pretty "endearing" statements like the kid was raised a scummer and the kids a catholic sure makes a recruit feel welcome.

Read who originally posted said comments...I was simply relaying potential reasons, such as a kid being a fan of another team or a kid's religious background and desire to go to a more religion-based institutionn as why they pick other universities.

give me a break. calling a player a "scummer" is certainly acceptable on a buckeye message board. i highly doubt that any recruit would take exception to that. it's the nature of the rivalry, and there is certainly far worse that has been said. you should recognize the difference between a poster simply calling a high school player "scum" and calling a player who just verballed to m*ch*gan a "scummer."

also, how in the world is citing a kid's catholic upbringing an untoward comment? religion is a large part of mccarthy and his family's life, is it not? he is catholic, is he not? notre dame is a catholic school, is it not?

i wish the kroger the best. i hope he does very well for himself up north. that being said, i hope our team makes him look extremely foolish each third saturday in november... and, with hope, early in january, too.
