DeVoe Torrence a two-way terror for South

CANTON TWP. Canton South High School football coach Moe Daniska said this week that DeVoe Torrence is still just a puppy.
What happens when this dog gets his bite?
Torrence continued his stellar play last week in the Wildcats' 27-17 win at Licking Valley. The junior running back-linebacker ran for 252 yards on 27 carries, scored two touchdowns, totaled 12 tackles and forced a fumble in South's first playoff victory.
"And he was right back ready for practice on Monday," said Daniska, whose team faces Steubenville (11-0) tonight at Mount Union Stadium in a Division III, Region 11 semifinal. "He hasn't missed a practice all season. He doesn't say a word about being tired."
Torrence has 109 tackles, 95 solo, with 11 tackles-for-loss and four sacks. On the other side of the ball, the 6-foot-2, 215-pounder has 1,574 yards of total offense and 16 touchdowns. He is averaging 10.2 yards every time he touches the ball, whether it's a run or pass.
"It's been a lot of fun, watching him do things that a lot of people can't do," said brother Devon, a senior, who has 36 receptions for 566 yards and nine TDs.
"He'll reverse field, with the whole defense going after him, and spin around. ... He does some crazy stuff."
One play stood out last week for Daniska. In the fourth quarter, Torrence went 62 yards for a TD that all but sealed the win for South (8-3).
"Everyone in the stadium knew who was getting the football, and he still took it all the way," Daniska said.
DeVoe got his second scholarship offer this week. Akron offered, joining Ole Miss in the sweepstakes. Devon, verbally committed to play football and baseball at Ohio State, might be doing a little recruiting himself.
"I'm going to let him make his own decision," Devon said. "I just want him to make a decision that makes him happy."
