Portland Trail Blazers' center Greg Oden says his "little" brother Anthony might play football at Oregon State.

Anthony Oden, a 6-foot-8, 295-pound offensive tackle/tight end from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, has numerous scholarship offers but has said he will make only three official visits -- to Arkansas, Indiana and Oregon State.

"He is talking to Oregon State," Greg Oden said Wednesday night. "I don't know how far along they are (in the process). I think he sent off tape and they are looking at him. He would like to come out here and be close to me."

Could be a good thing for the Oden brothers. It is not always a good idea to follow your brother around (just ask Marcus Vick) but Greg seems like such a level headed, intelligent, hard working young man that he would probably be a good influence on on Anthony.

Oden headed to Arkansas

Lawrence North senior Anthony Oden, younger brother of former Wildcats basketball star Greg Oden, said he will play football at Arkansas.
At 6-8, 295 pounds, Anthony Oden played football as a junior at Dayton (Ohio) Dunbar and as a senior with the Wildcats. He is being recruited as an offensive tackle after playing both tight end and tackle at Lawrence North.
"It's a blessing to have the opportunity to play in the (Southeastern Conference) after just two years of high school football," Oden said. "During my unofficial visit, I liked how everything is like a family there. . . . I'm excited."

On the practice field at Hargrave's bucolic Chatham, Va., campus, Newsome must dodge defensive end Toby Jackson, a 6-foot-4, 244-pound Georgia signee who is expected to enroll at Hargrave. Newsome also may line up behind offensive tackle Anthony Oden, a 2008 Arkansas signee who is the 6-10, 300-pound younger brother of Portland TrailBlazers center Greg Oden.

Didn't know Anthony was going to Hargrave. Sounds like he's done some growing too.

In the giant division, Petrino re-signed offensive lineman Anthony Oden after a year at prep school. The younger brother of Portland Trailblazer Greg Oden stands 6-foot-8, weighs 328 pounds and played tight end in high school in Indianapolis. "This is part of the process as we build the foundation for our program," Petrino said. "Recruiting is certainly a big part of that. One thing we try to say as a staff is for us to beat them on the field we need to compete and beat them in the recruiting process."

Hog Futures - Anthony Oden: Stepping out of big shadow

FAYETTEVILLE ? The latest in a series profiling new additions to the Arkansas football team for 2009.

Arkansas? football coaches are always willing to give extra looks to athletic prospects whose background includes playing high school basketball and football.

That, in part, is what drew the staff to Anthony Oden, an offensive tackle so physically imposing and athletic that Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino has suggested he could play as a freshman.

Oden was offered scholarships to play college basketball and follow inthe footsteps of his brother Greg. A 7-foot center, Greg Oden, in his one season of college basketball, led Ohio State to the championship game of the NCAA Tournament ...

Oden up and running

The pressure to win football games in the Southeastern Conference is perhaps unmatched, so if a coach has a 6-foot-8, 328-pound freshman offensive tackle with star potential hanging around, it?s probably a good idea to use him.

This perhaps is the thinking at Arkansas, where Anthony Oden (Dunbar) is carving out an identity for himself beyond simply being the brother of NBA 7-footer and former Ohio State standout Greg Oden.

Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino said Oden definitely will play today at Alabama in the Razorbacks? most important game to date. And judging by the recruiting fuss that was made over him, he should be seizing a permanent job before long.

Oden, who turns 20 in a few days, also drew interest from Indiana, Oregon State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Purdue, North Carolina State and Kansas. He spent last season at Hargrave Military Academy getting his academic game in shape and helping the football team go 10-1.

Oden?s local connection came about when his mother moved here to be closer to Greg, who played one season at OSU before the Portland Trail Blazers made him the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft. Anthony spent his junior year at Dunbar before moving back to Indianapolis.

FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas offensive lineman Anthony Oden was arrested by Fayetteville Police early Sunday and charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving and driving without a license.

Oden was booked into the Washington County Detention Center at 6:39 a.m. Sunday and released at 2:32 p.m. on $1,055 bond, according to the detention center's website. Oden is scheduled to appear in court for an Aug. 9 hearing.

Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino said he is "disappointed" in Oden and "handling the matter," according to a UA spokesperson.

Oden (6-foot-8, 334 pounds), the younger brother of Portland Trailblazers center Greg Oden, saw little playing time in 2009 but is expected to compete for a starting position at offensive tackle when preseason drills begin next month.

OUTLOOK: Oden is considered one of the best athletes on the team and should see time at the offensive tackle position. He should factor into the offensive line rotation and could also get snaps on special teams. He started at tackle for the Red in the Red-White Spring Game.
2009: He started once, at Alabama, and also played against Missouri State, Texas A&M, Eastern Michigan, South Carolina, Troy and Mississippi State. He was the first Razorback true freshman to start on the offensive line since Shawn Andrews in 2001. Both Oden and Andrews made their first starts at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. He was a member of an offensive line which blocked for a unit that led the SEC in scoring offense (36.0) and passing offense (295.5), and was third in total offense (427.3). The Razorbacks were 10th in the nation in passing offense, 20th in total offense, ninth in scoring and 11th in passing efficiency. The line did not allow a sack against Missouri State, Eastern Michigan or East Carolina. Oden blocked for seven 100-yard receiving games and three 100-yard rushing performances. His blocking helped Arkansas set school passing records for yards in a game (447 vs. Missouri State), passing yards in a season (3,842), passing yards average (295.5), passing touchdowns in a season (32) and passing first downs in a season (147). He also protected quarterback Ryan Mallett, who set or tied 16 different records.
HIGH SCHOOL: He originally signed to play for Arkansas in 2008 but attended Hargrave Military Academy, which finished with a 10-1 record. Rivals listed him as the No. 8 prep school prospect in the nation and Scout listed him as a Top 25 prep school prospect. Oden split time between tight end and defensive end during his high school career. He concentrated on basketball prior to his junior season before playing his two years of high school football. He played as a junior at Dunbar (Ohio) High School. He played both football and basketball as a sophomore at Lawrence North High School. He led his basketball team to a state championship. He played in Arkansas' Bud Walton Arena while in high school as part of Real Deal on the Hill, an AAU basketball tournament. He played for Coach Robert Prunty at Hargrave Military Academy. Oden was also recruited by Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Purdue, North Carolina State and Kansas.

Washington County Detention Center
Anthony Oden was arrested Saturday for the second time in just more than a year.

FAYETTEVILLE ? Arkansas offensive lineman Anthony Oden was arrested Saturday morning and charged with driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance, among other offenses.

Oden, 21, was booked in the Washington County Detention Center at 8:52 a.m. Saturday after being arrested by Fayetteville police. He was released less than two hours later on $2,000 bail.

According to the arrest report, Oden was pulled over after crossing the center line and hitting a curb while making a turn at 1:48 a.m. Saturday. Oden did not pull over when the officer flashed his lights, according to the report, and did not immediately pull over when the officer initiated his siren.

Oden came to a stop at the corner of Ash Street and Birch Street in Fayetteville, where, according to the report, the officer detected Oden had "bloodshot watery eyes" and "the odor of an intoxicating beverage".

A second officer conducted a field sobriety test on Oden, which he failed. He later was administered a blood alcohol test, which came back at .09, above the state limit of .08.

Oden was also found to have K2 on his person, a substance banned under Arkansas law last July.

In addition to the DWI and illegal substance charges, Oden was also charged with driving left of the center line, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, no proof of ownership, driving on a suspended/revoked driver's license and no driver's license, according to the Washington County Detention Center website.

Oden's court date was set for Aug. 1.

It is the second time Oden has been arrested on DWI charges during his career at Arkansas. He was arrested on July 4, 2010, and later suspended for the Razorbacks' season-opener against Tennessee Tech.

Oden is the fourth Arkansas player to be arrested on substance possession charges since last October.

Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino was unavailable for comment on the arrest through a university spokesperson.

Oden, who has started one game in his career, is expected to compete for one of Arkansas' starting offensive tackle positions this fall. He rejoined the team in the spring after having to drop out of classes last fall because of a case of mononucleosis.

Anthony Oden Dismissed By Arkansas After DWI Stop

Jul 15 9:40p by Brandon Larrabee

Arkansas offensive tackle Anthony Oden, brother of NBA star Greg, was dismissed by the Razorbacks less just shy of a week after he was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Other offenses in the one-man moving violation spree included possession of a controlled substance, driving left of the center line, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, driving without proof of ownership, driving on a suspended or revoked driver's license, and driving without a driver's license.

It was also Oden's second such incident in a year -- the first one cost him a game -- and apparently one too many for Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino. The official reason is the dreaded "violation of team rules," though it would seem pretty clear what those team rules were. The move is also perfectly timed to allow quite as many questions over the fate of Oden, who had a chance at starting, before SEC Media Days begins on Wednesday.
