Whitney visited tOSU for the Wisconsin game and is sending in game film to be reviewed. He has offers from Syracuse, Marshall, Cincinnati, Illinois, Kansas, Ball State, Boston College, Akron, Michigan State and Indiana. He will take an official visit set for Illinois on 11/30.

This is another of those late bloomers who will likely be caught in a numbers crunch...however, this kid has gained some major attention due to his tremendous upside, motor, and tenacity. Keep an eye on this prospect.

That is the word...kid is supposed to be a savage on the field.
I bet coach bob sax is helping him big time. He was a year a head of me at garfield and we both knew some guys that could have went big time. For ex,Thomas Lewis all big ten, all america, played in the NFL .Went to INDIANA:! no interest from OSU or help . Winfield was only found by OSU because, he stood out at camp.

Akron Garfield star Mercilus picks Illini

Wednesday, December 05, 2007 Tim Rogers

Plain Dealer Reporter
Akron Garfield two-way end Whitney Mercilus, described by coach Bob Sax as the most complete student-athlete he has coached, has made an oral commitment to Illinois.
The 6-3, 235-pound Mercilus said he reached his decision Monday and canceled a planned trip to Kansas this weekend. Kansas and Illinois were his final two choices.
"Illinois is a lot closer to home and I have to admit that had something to do with my decision," said Mercilus, who caught 24 passes for 417 yards and eight touchdowns this season and was named to the Northeast Ohio Inland District all-star team. "I feel that Illinois is one of the up-and-coming teams in the Big Ten."
