USC Among Miami WR's Top 5
By Matt Long
USC coach Robert Gillespie has been very active in the Miami area, including recent visits with Booker T. Washington WR Davon Johnson (5-11 170). His efforts might have paid off. Johnson said that USC is among his favorites, along with Miami, Ohio State, Florida, and Central Florida. With the exception of Florida, all have offered scholarships. Other offers have come from West Virginia, Rutgers, Ole Miss, South Florida, FIU, and Miami (OH). Gillespie has visited Washington and has watched the Tornadoes practice. Johnson says a big reason for his interest in South Carolina is due to Head Coach Steve Spurrier, "I like the type of offense he runs, how he spreads it out. It's the kind of offense where a receiver like me would really be used." While Johnson has not yet planned any visits, he did attend Miami's NIKE Camp, and hopes to participate in 7-on-7 tournaments at Miami and Rutgers.
