College Exposure Continues For NL's Chaney

Storrs ? Allan Chaney's summer basketball tour arrived at Gampel Pavilion Friday for the two-day Jim Calhoun Elite Basketball Camp.

The recruiting process has heated up in recent weeks following Chaney's impressive AAU season. Georgetown's John Thompson has joined the list of major college coaches interested in the New London High School senior.

?It's been fun but hard,? Chaney said. ?It's unexplainable until you go through it.?

The Jim Calhoun Elite Basketball Camp provided Chaney an opportunity to showcase his skills to the UConn coaching staff.

Chaney wrapped up a busy few hours by shooting jump shots with UConn assistant Patrick Sellers close by. He also took part in drills and played in games with about 40 other high school players.

UConn is on a list of suitors along with Florida, Ohio State, Georgetown, Boston College and Providence.

?It's a chance to get to know the UConn coaching staff better,? Chaney said. ?It's an honor to be here.?

Chaney, a 6-foot-8 forward, came away disappointed with his performance Friday. He failed to stand out in a sea of talented players ranging from high school freshmen to seniors.

?(Saturday) I'm going to come out with a different intensity than what I did today,? Chaney said. ?Even though it's a couple of scrimmages, like my coach said, I have to go hard every play.?

Chaney brought along his own support group with New London coach Craig Parker, assistant coach Dave Cornish and former New London standout Tyson Wheeler in attendance.

Following another session Saturday, Chaney will head back to New London and continue to work out at New London High and also with a personal trainer in Waterford.

Chaney recently moved into the top 100 in Scout.com summer rankings, checking in at No. 61.

?I will pare it down soon, as far as the top five schools that I want,? Chaney said of his list.

Where does UConn fit in right now?

Well, Chaney is definitely interested in the Huskies. UConn has Chaney on its radar.

?They're pretty interested because of my versatility and what I can do on the court and my personality,? Chaney said. ?The coaches here seem like they're pretty cool.?
