'08 CA TE Blake Ayles (Southern Cal signee - transfer to Miami, FL)

Do y'all think Blake will be hard to pull out of the West? Wonder if he has any midwestern roots?

Yes. To my knowledge, his father is from Wisconsin. I think the Badgers are a major player in his recruitment. First of all, UW probably has more prestige in his household (because of his father) than a high majority of the households in Cali. I'm sure he's been ingrained with UW love since he was a little kid. Secondly, the Badgers had the #1 receiving tight end in the nation last year in Travis Beckum. If he waits until after this college season to announce, another year of Beckum thriving would surely spike his interest. Also, Wisconsin's last tight end, Owen Daniels, had a pretty solid rookie season and is the starter for the Texans. The Badgers use their TE's extensively under offensive coordinator Paul Chryst. Finally, it's predicted to be a banner year for UW, and if the team doesn't disappoint, Bielema should finish strong in this class (already started strong). If he isn't too concerned about the cold, or staying close to home; then don't be surprised if he signs with the Badgers. If he goes to a northern school, I believe it will be Wisconsin. Otherwise, Miami or USC.

By Kevin Noon...Blake talks about his style of play. Talks about various players/recruits/commits trying to recruit him to certain schools (including Stoney).

By Allen Wallace...Ayles is at OSU today. Lots of quotes from his mother on the trip so far.
Very interesting read for a freebie article.
His mother clearly has a preference for Blake to stay on the West Coast - but who knows, a visit is always the best opportunity to impress a recruit and the father being open on the issue is a good sign.

Wasn't sure from the way it was written if his mother accompanied Blake and his Father on the trip - sounded as if JT did not have a chance to meet Blake's Mom face to face.

One thing that jumped off the page was a 192 foot discus throw. That is some serious heft for a 6-4, 235 pound athlete - the national HS record is (I think) somewhere over 230 feet.

I sincerely hope that both Ayles and Koger stay in-state.

Not dissing Ayles at all in this wish. Just hoping that Ohio's best tight end plays in Ohio and California's doesn't play in Wisconsin. :wink2:

And I hopre that Koger plays for us and Ayles plays for Wisconsin(because it is a big ten school) and really that is where his roots are not California. It is just nice to see the kid come the distance to check us out
