Caveat: Keep in mind this guy's from McAllen, right down in the Rio Grande Valley. They're not exactly known for producing top tier D1 talent, even if they are 5A (our highest classification). All those guys he's running past in his videos are all probably slower than molassas.
That's not much of a caveat. I wasn't looking at the guys that were missing....you don't need to see him match up against a nationally ranked team from Texas to recognize the tangibles (and intangibles). Besides, recruiting is about individuals, not regions or teams. You surely have your examples, but one that I always think about is RB Curtis Enis (Penn State and Chicago Bears). He came from Mississinawa Valley HS in Ohio, which I'm pretty sure would rank in the bottom 1% of high schools in the state in terms of enrollment. On top of that, the team always stinks. On top of that, they don't even play against any good small-school teams.

Just watched the videos. Yikes!

After watching the Freshman footage, I thought the Noel Devine comparisons were a little overblown. But after seeing what he did as a Sophomore, I think he compares pretty nicely. The improvement was impressive. I can only imagine how good Bradley will be by his Freshman year at tOSU. Awesome, baby!

Bradley's two best moves:

1. The Sidestep: going full speed, stops in mid-air, effortlessly slips left or right, watches helpless defenders fly by in space, accelerates again into the endzone. Every bit as smooth as Noel Devine on this move.

2. The Kneel: in the endzone, immediately drops to one knee, gives credit where credit is due, to the Almighty. This move, coupled with his 4.0 grade point, assures him success at whatever he does in the future, for whichever college is lucky enough to get him.

Let's assume Noel Devine goes somewhere other than tOSU. He's got no connection to Ohio and the Florida schools must be creaming themselves scheming to get him. He'll likely stay in state.

Fine with me. I'll take Stephens in a heartbeat.

Bradley has strong Ohio ties and is as desirable a RB as I can imagine. If we've correctly identified his big brother -- Robert Louis Stephens Jr., PhD Pharmacology, tOSU -- I would think Bradley's dad, RLS Senior, would be thrilled to see Bradley matriculate in Buckeyedom. What better place to send your son than to your namesake's home school?

Consider this Trifecta: 2005, Maurice Wells -- 2006, 'Beanie' Wells -- 2007 Bradley Stephens. My hands are starting to tremble and my pits are getting sweaty. Bring me my syringe, Watson, I need to calm down.

JT, Doc, Arch and Eddie G. should be on this young man right now!

Quick aside to CleveBucks: I would define 'pharmacology' as the study of medicines. But, hey, that's just me.

PS -- somebody with some influence needs to make sure R.L. Stephens Jr., PhD continues his career at tOSU happily and prosperously at least through 2011.

Bradley Stephens is actually much faster and on the track and bigger then Noel Devine. Noel is not even the fastest RB in his district as I believe he runs something in the 11's for 100M. Noel was listed in the 200M at 22.6. His performance on the track and 4.5 list speed is not matching the hype from his coach. Stephens is clearly showing both the moves and football speed plus the ability to duplicate it on the track as well.

Because of him, I don't see a need for a 2nd RB after Chris Wells in the '06 class. Haw and Pittman should strut their stuff this year as the "elderstatesmen" while only being a Soph and a RS Fresh. Mo Wells hasn't even made it to tOSU yet, but he should also get considerable playing time. And then we have Mr. Chris Wells. He is a flat out beast of a human being. Wells2x, Pittman and Haw + Russell? should be more than enough to hold us over until Bradley steps on campus. All young, w/no real need to crowd the backfield... even though they are all studs.

Whoa, it's not like I'm saying he sucks. I'm drooling over this kid, and I really, really want him to end up at UT. I'll be following his junior and senior years very closely. This guy has the potential to be the next Adrian Peterson. Or as you said, Curtis Enis (without the injuries hopefully).

All I'm saying is he's going to have to buck the trend. Every highly touted back who has come out of that region in the past has not lived up to expectations. It's like clockwork.

Will Bradley live up to expectations? After watching his videos for the millionth time, I'm thinking so. He'll just have to be the exception.

Watching the videos, I'm most impressed by what I'll call instincts.

On the end around, he sets up the block on the end of line before cutting behind it. When he's in the open field, he frequently cuts behind pursuers in the secondary, and it's almost always the correct decision.

On a side note, don't you wonder what the score was when they ran that sweet hook-and-ladder play?

Stephens would look really good in the OSU backfield

If i remember their were a few who have recently done very well. The Taylor boys Jarmar and his brother both Texas A&M-Jarmar currently with the NY Giants. As far as speed in the That part of Texas they do pretty well. I read in Rivals that the kid ran a 10.8 100M and a 49 400M as a freshman. His current times listed in the Rivals board are 21.8 200M and 48.7 400M. Especially for a sophomore. I think that these time are pretty respectable anywhere in the country. It looks like from his web site that schools are also looking at him for track. the thing I like the most about Stephens from watching his video is that the kid can catch the ball. Did you notice the season receiving yards? Did you notice that the kid was returning punts as a freshman. Now that takes mental toughness. This kid put up over 2000 yds rushing/receiving as a Sophomore playing Texas 5A football. I believe that he also punted with a 35 yd average (Rivals) and played defensive CB. Wow! We need this guy!

All those guys he's running past in his videos are all probably slower than molassas. But, this argument works for him as well. His offensive linemen, quarterback, and receivers suck compared to what yall are used to, so he has to play with these guys as well, not just against them. He'd be lucky to have 190 pound offensive tackles

Woods, your correct. Region has very little to do with success in college.

Engineerhorn, why do you he would have OL kids that weight 190 lbs? Give me a break. What kind of kids do you think we have down here?

For Stephens to put up those number on Varsity as a freshman and sophmore are amazing, and would be amazing anywhere in the nation.

The Rio Grande Valley has produced our share of D1 Talent and we are very proud of them.

Tom Landry-Mission HS-UTexas-NY Giants
QB Koy Detmer-Mission HS-Colorado-Eagles
RBWR Jammar Taylor-Mission HS-Notre Dame/Texas A&M-Giants
WR Irvin Taylor-Mission HS-Texas A&M
RB Tony Ellis-#1 rusher in Texas his SR year-Brownsville Hanna-UTexas-Played 2 years behind Ricky Williams and Priest Holmes.
QB Billy Garza-Brownsville Hanna-Illinios

Check out my site, its a alma mater football site to see some sample pictures of games and other info that might help you NOT make those type of comments(referring to the 190lbs OT comment).

That's my boy!

Bradley is my nephew and I have to say that I am so very proud of him. I am living in Arkansas now and know that they are looking into him as well. He would be a great asset to not only the football program here but the track one as well. However my brother Dr. Stephens has given us all a reason to be Ohio fans. I will be excited about whatever school he decides to attend and hope that his amazing talent won't be sidelined. He definitely is one to be watching out for.

lewisvilla,

You have much to be proud about. Not only is Bradley a great football player, but he is a very well spoken and friendly person. His father is in the same boat for that matter. I hope OSU and your nephew see eye to eye and we do indeed see him in the S&G. No matter what he will be an awesome player and I will be rooting for him wherever he plays.
