By Phil Kornblut RB Brian Maddox (6-2 215) of T.L. Hanna made an unofficial visit to Auburn Saturday and will continue his busy spring schedule this week when he comes to USC to watch a spring practice Thursday. Maddox said he will sit in on a running backs meeting before that practice. As for Auburn, Maddox said he enjoyed the trip and picked up an offer from the Tigers. "I really like their facilities," he said. "The weight room, their stadium, and I like their whole coaching staff." Maddox also picked up an offer from Florida over the weekend. Still, his favorite remains the same. "USC is still my favorite," he said. "I still plan on making a commitment but I'm thinking I'll back it up some to sometime in June since all the schools have come on." Previously, Maddox had said he would commit on his birthday May 28th. Maddox will visit NC State March 25th and UNC the next day, and he will go to Virginia Tech April 15th. Maddox also has offers from Clemson, Maryland, Duke and Vanderbilt.
By Phil Kornblut It's USC's hope that the early commitment from Richland Northeast DB Gary Gray will influence other top junior prospects in the state to follow suit. Thursday night's announcement has already had an effect on one of those players, RB Brian Maddox (6-2 215) of T.L. Hanna. "I kind of knew he was going to South Carolina," Maddox said. "He's a good person. He would be a great person to play with. He texted me and I told him congratulations. He told me 'I just need to get you and Quintin (Richardson) here with me.' " Maddox won't be a hard sell because he has been, and remains a hard lean to the Gamecocks. But what Gray's decision has done is cause Maddox to rethink his announcement plans. "Yea, I think I'm going to do it on my birthday again," Maddox said of the May 28th date. "I'm going to stick with that." Maddox originally said he would announce on his birthday, but after receiving a number of offers, he said he would wait until sometime in June." Maddox will visit NC State this Saturday and then North Carolina on Sunday. He will go to USC's spring game April 8th.
By Phil Kornblut RB Brian Maddox (6-2 215) of T.L. Hanna attended USC's spring game this past Saturday and was impressed by what he saw. "I really liked it," Maddox said. "They have tremendous fan support. All the fans knew me down there. When I walked out of the tunnel to go down on the field, fans were chanting my name." Maddox paid close attention to the offensive game plan, especially how the running backs were used. "They ranit and threw it about 50-50," he said. "The run was productive for the bit I got to see. They threw to the backs a good bit, too." Maddox has been a long time lean to USC and he said nothing has changed. "Carolina still is my favorite," he said. "The rest of the teams after them are even. I'll have to give them a quiet commitment on my birthday and do a press conference on another date because my coach (Scott Parker) won't be available on that date (May 28th)." Maddox recently picked up an offer from Georgia Tech giving him a total of 12. He will visit Florida State this Friday and Florida on Saturday.
