'06 PA WR Wesley Lyons (West Virginia signee)

Coming into the recruiting season (does it ever really end?) I would have thought we would have had a better read on this kid by now, but instead we are still speculating this, that, and the other.

I'm still saying he is OSU bound.

It's really hard to say with Wesley. Clearly, he is an Ohio State fan, and I'm sure that he would like to play on the same team as his older brother. However, because the Buckeyes are loaded with young WR's, Wesley might see Ohio State as a bad fit. In addition, with Chichester already in the fold, is there room for another tall receiver in this class? Maybe he's not getting the right "vibe" from the coaching staff right now.

I agree with Wadc45 to some extent - in the past few months, Lyons has had several leaders including Miami, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Boston College, but not Ohio State. On the other hand, schools like Miami and Oklahoma have already come and gone, and Ohio State always seems to be in second place no matter who leads. This is the old "head vs. heart" battle, IMHO.

LJB and I were talking about this through PM and he made the comment that it seems like Wesley is a "fan". I totally agree, and in this case I could see how that could almost work against us. He is at the games or watching them on TV, he is on the websites, and he undoubtedly is aware of the problem we have had distributing the football (i.e. to players not named Ted or Santonio). This would obviously have to be a concern for Wesley, but hopefully the staff can convince them that as the offense matures and the staff and QBs all become more comfortable with this offensive scheme that is still really new to most of the team, the ball we get "spread" around a lot more and he and his brother will both have an opportunity to catch a lot of balls over the next few years.

That being said, I think Wesley is also looking for somewhere where he can be a big fish in a smaller pond. I think the offensive production of programs like West Virginia and Louisville are appealing to young receivers and it may be what sways him in that direction.

My gut still says he is not headed to Columbus but I could easily be wrong (wouldn't be the first time!)...

I'm wondering how many big time offers he has. I know he wants playing time and not trying to bash any schools but WVU and BC are a big downgrade from Oklahoma,Miami, and Ohio State. I have heard people around his area that doubt some of the offers he says he has. Not saying he doesn't have them but just a thought.

I think we're his backup plan. :sad2:

If he would come here he would have Boekman and Schoenhoft to throw him the rock! That is a huge plus!

WVU has no one comparable to our two QBs to launch the rock down the field!

Wesley is still favoring tOSU, WVU, and Boston College, but will probably take a few more visits and decide in December. He is most comfortable at tOSU, but WVU and Boston College offer early playing time and a pro-style open offense. He speaks with JT or another staff member weekly.
