Darius Smith
Weakside DE / Outside linebacker
Euclid, Ohio
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 195 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.65 seconds
GPA: 3.2

Darius is the younger brother of current Buckeye Brandon Smith and a teammate of current 2006 Buckeye recruit Thaddeus Gibson. Darius sounds like a sleeper who might really develop during his senior season. From the same high school which produced OSU running backs Robert Smith and Pepe Pearson, Notre Dame running back Tony Fisher, and University of Cincinnati basketball player Melvin Levett.

According to his coach, Mike Rezzolla, "This kid can run and he's going to get bigger." (Rivals "audibles" concerning Darius Smith). We'll see where he ends up, but he's already bigger than Buckeye verbal LB Freddie Lenix.

COMMITMENT
Euclid's Smith opts for Bowling Green

Darius Smith's far-distant future aspirations are to crunch numbers as an accountant.

A year from now, however, the Euclid High senior's concerns will lie in crunching Mid-American Conference quarterbacks.

Smith will have that chance now that the 6-3, 210-pound defensive end/offensive tackle has orally committed to Bowling Green.

"It's close to home, and it has a good business department," said Smith, who registered 60 tackles and five QB sacks a year ago.

Smith, who also visited Indiana and Akron, is slated to play defensive end at the next level.

"They have a senior and sophomore at [the position] right now, and I don't know how many more they're recruiting," Smith said. "But I'm willing to play anywhere they need me."
