'06 OH WR Lorenzo Hunter (RIP)

Lorenzo is ranked no.13 overall prospect in Ohio for '06 by Ohio Mag. But is behind Lighty and a couple of Glenville kids (Devin Jones/Roy Smalls) at WR. '06 is projected to be a very good year in Ohio (headlined by Wells and Lighty). It shows his measureables as 6-4 170 WR/S. You have to think he fills out.

Thanks again for the pix 11!

I remember seeing Hunter in the State Championship game on ONN. Obviously Benedictine rode Williams for all he was worth but I remember being surprised by Hunter's size and the fact he was only a sophomore. IIRC he made a catch along the sideline and showed some nice athleticism to get a first down. Definitely a player to watch.

Lorenzo was murdered last night- what a tragedy

RIP Lorenzo

The promising life of 16-year-old Lorenzo Hunter was cut short in an early morning shooting.

Anyone who follows high school football probably recognizes the name Lorenzo Hunter.

Only a sophomore, he was already a star on Benedictines football team.

Sadly the teenager was gunned down Thursday night and died in the street.

People thought that Hunter was destined for greatness. Instead he became the victim of a violent crime.

"We're gonna find out who did it, and somebody is gonna pay, dearly, my son was murdered," said Cheryl Tucker, Hunter's mom.

The Benedictine sophomore was hanging out with friends Thursday night on Craven Ave.

He was on his way home when he was shot four times in the street. His best friend didn't see the shooter, but hopes someone did.

"Somebody know what happened, somebody out there saw it, watched it, [they] know what happened," said Raymond Williams.

Lorenzo's mother never imagined this kind of violence would affect her family, especially her son.

"A great athlete, he loves sports, made good grades, had a lot of friends, a lot of people who loved him," said Tucker. "He never got in no trouble, he's gonna be missed, he's really gonna be missed."

Lorenzo was only in the tenth grade, but already the varsity football and track star was getting recruited by big ten schools. That, coupled with his good grades, made college a sure thing.

"I'm proud of him, he had big dreams, now everything is just gone, everything he worked so hard for," said his mother.

At the corner where Lorenzo was killed a small memorial is growing. It is a sad reminder of what happened.

"He was the one on that good path, somebody come and just took his life away, that easy," said Jermaine Hunter, the victim's brother.

Cleveland Police do have a suspect in mind, but they have not been able to locate him.

Lorenzo's family and friends say he's never been in trouble, they can't imagine how this could have happened.

All athletic events at the school have been cancelled this weekend and grief councilors are available to the students.

Hunter played wide receiver on the 2003 high school football division III champion Bengals and also participated in Track and Field.
