'06 OH WR Josh Chichester (Louisville signee)

This guy could be another Rickey Dudley! Which would be VERY good, indeed!

You'll never see Josh line up at TE at Ohio State...mark it down. He just has too thin of a frame to bulk to a TE build. If he gets up to a solid 230-240 (which I think he will, easily), he'll be a killer WR...killer height, good strength, great hands, good ups for a tall guy, and with coaching from Coach Reynolds, good speed.

Chichester is an athletic WR who brought in tough catch after tough catch with pass interference all over the place. The most impressive thing to me was his ability to re-adjust to many poorly thrown balls (including a fade route where he jumped over the DB, reached over and down around the DB's stomach, and pulled the ball up and over him).

He doesn't strike you as a lanky, uncoordinated big man. He's no slasher, but he's got decent speed and has good body control.

Without retracing my math from earlier, it will take a 6'1" db with a 30 inch vertical to have a shot at stopping this kid on a jump ball... and that's not taking into consideration how he can use his body to box out the defender somewhat.

It would probably take more than a 30-inch vert from a 6'1" DB. Josh has 7" oe height already, which would equate to a 7"-8" arm reach advantage in addition to the 7" height difference. So, with both Josh and the DB standing flat-footed on the ground and their arms held straight up, Josh has a 14"-15" reach advantage. Isn't Josh's vertical around 30", too? Seems to me that the only DB around that could gets his hands up the same height as Josh would be Dustin Fox...

Hmm... I was tired yesterday let's check my math... (btw the reason the height is 3/4 is b/c I am measuring to his shoulder, and adding the length of an arm to that)
Highest Jump = (Height * 0.75) + (Wingspan / 2) + Vertical ...wingspan = height (for the sake of this argument, we'll use the Vitruvian model)

Chichester = 60 + 40 + 32 = 132 = 11 ft
6'1 DB = 55 + 36.5 + 30 = 122.5 = 10.1 ft
Dustin Fox = 52.5 + 35 + 42.5 = 130 = 10.8 ft

Yeah I was definitely wrong yesterday...

It will take a 6'1" DB with good hops (30" vertical) on a perfectly timed jump to come within a foot of the top of Chichester's hands.

WOW!

His latest numbers say, 6 ft 8, 215 lbs! He could get to 230 in his first year at the team table! I think he gets to 240 ish when he hits the field! As a WR, or they keep feeding him and he grows into a TE! Didn't Dudley play at 245?

Hang the math. Mili's right. He'll play purely wide receiver (a la Randy Moss, T.O. and "Tight End" Tony Gonzalez) and will be an unstoppable weapon in must-have situations ...third and seven, gotta have the first down, jumpball to Josh for 8, first down.

I have a feeling he'll be a good skill receiver also, but I know for a fact that he's 6' friggin' 8".

Do you even read other posts in threads? Give it up...he will not be a TE. By the way, Dudley was 6'6", 255. Chichester is a legit 6'8" and could possibly grow another inch or so, seeing as he's just entering his senior year in high school. Even if he stays at 6'8", he'll need to be at minimum 260 to be a TE. He'll be a WR...period.

Josh is a legit 6'7 (with shoes) and he's been about that tall for a few years...so I think he's done growing. I'm not sure if he has the frame or not to add the weight (I'm not an expert), but tight end isn't out of the question. No offense Mili, but I'll take the analysis of Duane Long, who has no doubts in his mind that Josh will be a tight end.

Personally, I like him at receiver, but to throw away any possibility of TE is a little pre-mature.

No offense taken. Regardless of what Duane says, I just don't see Chichester putting on 50-60 pounds on that frame. Duane could very well be right, but even he is wrong is his predictions at times.

Duane also is being extremely generous in his hopes for 06 QB Mike Hartline (who is quite thin), who will be hard-pressed to put on a ton of weight to handle Big10 football... let alone maintain the same mobility while doing so.

So I would take some of his opinions with a grain of salt.

Remember that Josh has high hopes of playing b-ball with Oden, Conley, Cook and company. So muscling up to become a Tight End may not be high on his personal priority list. Adding a little bulk to fill the Power Forward spot that the Thad Five currently lacks is one thing. But becoming a tree-sized Big Ten Tight End doesn't fit the picture.

And if I were JT, which luckily for us all I am not, I'd love having a 6'8" wideout. We've got Ballard and are in on Rueland and others. We won't lack for true Tight Ends. But having a 6'8" WR with great athleticism is truly special.

No offense to Duane or anyone else, but looking at it logically, considering the player's wishes and aspirations, I say Mili's right. Josh is a wide-out.

If he has the speed, there's absolutely no reason to bulk him up too much and put him at tight end. At wideout he would provide unlimited mismatches with corners and safeties.

Hell, just find a way to get him lined up against 5-7 corner Brandon Harrison. With both standing on the ground and arms raised, Josh would probably have an 18-20" height advantage.

He'd provide matchup problems at TE as well. I doubt many linebackers would be able to cover a guy with Chichester's height and athleticism.

The good thing is he's on board. The rest will sort itself out later.

Dead on. JT always says he looks at Speed, Big Speed, and Power players - not positions.

Of cousre, what is interesting about Chichester is that could span the gap between Speed and Big Speed.

Don't YOU read other posts? Because two pages ago, I posted Ricky Dudley's height and weight from his senior year (1995)...6'7" 240lbs.
