Edwards is ranked as the #46 prospect in Ohio. If he has the same type of season he had as a junior, he could be a fast riser on the top 100 players in Ohio.

From Scout.com...Peris has offers from Miami (OH), Toledo, Kent State and Bowling Green. His favorites includes those offers plus Purdue, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa and Boston College. He will camp at OSU and Purdue. Most schools are talking to him as a safety. He has a 3.3 GPA and is going to retake the ACT.

Another CL tandem to watch are Rogers seniors Peris Edwards and Jermaine Dykes.

Edwards, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound running back/safety, is one of the area’s top college prospects, with scholarship offers on the table from Mid-American Conference schools Bowling Green, Miami, Akron, Kent State, Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan. Ohio State, Purdue, Marshall and Cincinnati have also shown interest, according to Rams coach Rick Rios.

“There’s probably not a harder worker in northwest Ohio than Peris Edwards, Rios said, “on or off the field. All last school year, during football, basketball and track seasons, Peris went to Bally’s to work out three times a week before school at 4:30 in the morning.

“On the field, he likes to mix it up. He’s not afraid of contact. He’d rather hit someone than make an interception.

City League notebook: Rams’ Edwards selects Miami (Ohio)

By STEVE JUNGA
BLADE SPORTS WRITER

Rogers High School senior football player Peris Edwards, one of the top local targets of college recruiters, has decided to accept a scholarship offer from Miami (Ohio).

Edwards — a quick and hard-hitting 6-foot-2, 190-pound running back and safety for the Rams — was recruited as a safety by the RedHawks. He also had received offers from Bowling Green, Akron, Kent State, Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan, all Mid-American Conference schools.

“It was just a gut feeling I had when I was at the campus,” said Edwards of selecting Miami. “I felt like it was a good fit for me. The players were real cool and I went by my instincts.

“Miami is a good academic school, so I know I’ll have something to fall back on besides football.”

Edwards, who carries a 3.3 grade-point average, has qualified academically to attend Miami.

Rogers coach Rick Rios said that the University of Toledo had shown interest in Edwards but had yet to make a scholarship offer at the time the player’s decision was made.

“I think Peris made a good choice,” Rios said. “When he visited there this summer, that’s all he talked about. He loved it down there. He was deciding between Miami and Bowling Green and Toledo, so I don’t think he could have made a bad choice.”

Edwards had a memorable week, as the Rams, picked to finish 10th in a preseason City League coaches poll, upset preseason Northern Lakes League favorite Southview 12-8 on Friday night. Edwards intercepted a pass in the victory.
