Decision time nears for Scotlandville lineman

With less than two weeks remaining before the national signing period begins, Scotlandville two-way lineman Daverin Geralds knows the clock is ticking.

Geralds, a 6-foot-2, 285-pounder, has already made official visits to Duke and Southern, the latter where his father David is defensive line coach for the Jaguars.

“Both visits were real nice,” Geralds said. “I had a really good time at Duke. As of right now that’s where I’m leaning.”

The next step for Geralds, who holds a 4.6 grade point average, will be to decide on a visit to close out his recruiting process. He said he’ll choose between Stanford, Georgia Tech and Ohio State for that final trip this weekend.

“I’m going to have to pick between a lot of good schools,” said Geralds, a honorable mention Class 4A All-State choice as a senior. “A lot of schools have been coming on me late. It’s going to come down to which school has my major (electrical engineering) and the best program for my major.”

wow...that really is out of nowhere. he has good size but seems a little slow. I noticed that early in the process some schools were talking OL and some were talking DL with Daverin. Maybe this is Plan B for Troutman?

you think they would take a kid of lesser talent just to help get the average GPA up?

Not sure, but this class contains plenty of academic risks...

Film breakdown: Daverin has solid feet and is an active run blocker. He was below average in pass blocking at OT, but should be ok inside if he ends up on the OL. Definitely must work on strength and technique.

So how is OSU's "electical engineering" stack up against those mentioned?

Or is that GPA very appealing for balancing out some of the academic risks in this class?

I've thought the very same thing about some of our recruits. Not that having a good GPA makes you a poor football player. Also, I don't want to insinuate anything, but Tress does have academic achievement bonuses in his contract. Of course those "bonuses" are in the form of scholarship money that he gets to decide how to use, but who knows. I guess we'll find out if the NCAA actually enforces their APR thing or if they'll just continue to publically humiliate those who fail regularly.

Anyway, he seems to have pretty good size and he'll get to work with Reynolds on the speed.
