Georgia DE Has Several Offers Including Gamecocks

By Matthew Pitts
DE Morrice Richardson (6-2 230) of Atlanta, GA has several offers from some of the best programs in all of college football heading into his senior season at Westlake High. Richardson, who dominated last season with 85 total tackles and six sacks, had a lot of things to offer when asked to describe himself as a football player. "I am always aggressive and I have good technique. I get after it on every play." Richardson has 24 total offers to his credit at this point. Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Maryland, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, USC, Alabama and Florida are amongst those 24 that have offered. Richardson has already attended camp sessions at Alabama and Auburn this summer and also attended the NIKE Combine in Athens, GA this past spring. Richardson recently took an unofficial visit to Oklahoma and walked away very impressed. "One thing that stood out to me was how close their players are with each other and I like their coaches a lot too." Richardson will be taking one more unofficial visit this summer before he turns all of his attention to his upcoming senior season. "I am taking a trip down to Florida this weekend to visit there and then I am just going to get ready for another high school football season." Richardson currently has no favorites and says he will cut his list down toward the end of this season.

SUPER 11

Defense dominant among area's top picks

Colleges looking for defensive help will find plenty with this year's City Life/South Metro Super 11 selections.

Only one of this season's selections played strictly on offense, with the rest making their name from the defensive side of the football.

Douglass wide receiver Terrence Jones is the lone offensive player. The Astros should add to their legacy of producing college-bound players this season. Last February, Douglass had eight players sign for Division I scholarships.

Douglass had three players make the area Super 11 team. In addition to Jones, linebacker Akeem Dent and cornerback Alan Strong were picks.

All three have sparked the interest of SEC and ACC schools.

Reshad Jones of Washington is considered the area's top recruit. According to Bulldogs coach Rodney Cofield, almost every major college program in the country has offered the free safety a scholarship.

Jones, who had eight interceptions last season, lists LSU, Miami, Michigan, Oklahoma and Florida as his top choices.

"You name them, they have been in here after Reshad," Cofield said. "He is something special."

Equally impressive has been Westlake defensive end Morrice Richardson. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound defensive end is considering Florida, Georgia Tech, LSU, Virginia Tech and Ohio State as his top choices entering the season.

Like Douglass, Westlake has three players represented on the preseason Super 11 team. Besides Richardson, defensive end Kiante Tripp and Mario Edwards represent the southwest Atlanta school.

Tripp is the most intriguing member of the class of 2005.

The 6-6, 280-pound defensive end could possibly play both basketball and football in college.

He said that Georgia has given him permission to do both, while he is still waiting to hear from Florida. Tripp also has Alabama listed among his top picks.
