'06 FL WR Greg Mathews (Michigan signee)

He is concerned that if he does commit to OSU, he won't get through admissions. He takes his test again on the 28th, I think he will see how well he feels he did on it, then make a decission.

Thanks for the update! I'm just wondering how he could get into scUM but not into OSU considering their academic standards are supposed to be a bit higher than ours. Is this not true anymore? Or would he not get into either?

I'm assuming he could get in to UM's Division of Kinesiology, which has different academic standards than UM's general admissions...

Wow if that is case, scUM could really be lacking on WR's next year. The only ones I know of is Manningham and Breaston, and Mario came in and started as a freshmen, which means that there isnt a lot of depth. Not a knock on Mario, just not many upperclassmen that I know about.

Also thanks for the update HH, I have felt for a while that if his grades were where they needed to be he would be a buck, but it looks that isnt going to be the case.

scUM has bodies at WR, jut not many proven ones such as Antonio Bass, Doug Dutch, and Adrian Arrington.
Michigan fans are very confident that Mathews is qualified or else "we wouldn't have accepted his verbal". So I wonder if they are just mis-informed...

Just like they accepted Slocum's verbal, twice... and he appears to be heading towards failing to gain qualification, twice.

From BSB...Greg's mother went on all three official visits with him. He will announce between FSU, OSU and Michigan on Signing Day, although she says a decision could come earlier.

Looks like he might be announcing on NLOID.

kinda sucks having a player wait until NLOID if the staff truely doesn't know what school he will pick. Hope decision comes sooner.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe You can't send out more letters than you have spots. so if we have 3 open spots for example we can only send out letters to 3 of the remaining 6-8 players who are still deciding who are possible candidates.

If I remember right, Buster Davis wanted to be a Buckeye (Supposedly) but never got a letter to sign on NLOID, in favor of a other recruits who never ended up being buckeyes (McGlover, and R. Washington if memory serves).

Sort of correct.... Back in 2002 (the year of the Buster Davis fiasco), the Big Ten did not allow teams to "over sign" (although other conferences did allow that), and thus Ohio State could not send out more than 25 LOI's; Davis, who never committed to Ohio State, was the 26th player, with the 24th and 25th players being Derek Morris and Richard Washington. Well, Morris signed with Ohio State (although he never played a down for the Buckeyes), but Washington (who had committed to OSU) switched to NC State at the last minute; Davis has had some success at Florida State. If the staff had been allowed to send out an "extra" LOI to Davis, he might be a Buckeye now.

Since then, the Big Ten changed its rule, and the conference now allows teams to "over sign" by three, allowing up to 28 per class (but with 85 being the overall max number of scholarships).

BTW, Stanley McClover was in the recruiting class of 2003.
