'06 FL ATH Laurence Marius (Georgia Tech verbal)

Highstreet

Heisman
Laurence Marius
Key West
HT: 5-11
WT: 175
Video: HERE

-Marius is the #33 ranked prospect in Florida

- As a junior last season, Marius went both ways as a running back and cornerback. He finished the season with 980 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns in just nine games. Defensively, he had three picks and returned two punts for scores. Perhaps his best stat is that nobody scored a touchdown on him and only four passes were completed on his side of the field all season. He also holds the school record in the long jump event (23-2) and runs three other events during track season. He had a passing SAT score midway through his junior year.

As a follow up to the Laurence Marius video coverage, SunshinePreps now brings you a quick interview with one of the state's best.

SP:
Hey Laurence, it has been a year now since meeting up with you at the skills camp last year, how have things been?

LM:
Very good. Getting a lot of interest.

SP:
What schools are you really looking at?

LM:
Not really sure, I am kind of new to this. I am the first in my family who has played sports and to have colleges come after you is all new to me.

SP:
Any favorites?

LM:
Not really yet. I grew up a big Gators fan and I have been in touch with their coaches quite a bit but I just want to play ball.

SP:
Any offers yet?

LM:
DUKE has offered.

SP:
That is pretty impressive. What do you think?

LM:
I agree. My mom likes them a lot.

SP:
What position do you want to play in college?

LM:
It doesn't matter to me. Wherever the team I play for feels they need me.

SP:
When did you start playing football?

LM:
In 6th grade. My mom did not want me to play because she thought I would get hurt.

SP:
What size are you?

LM:
At the NIKE camp I measured in at 5'10" 1/2" without shoes and weigh 170. I run track at this weight also.

SP:
What kind of stats did you put up last year?

LM:
In 7 games I had 942 yards. I was All Citizens (Monroe County) player of the year and 2nd team All-State.

SP:
Excellent. Tell me about your grades.

LM:
3.2 GPA and I have already taken the test and received an 840. I am working with a mentor to bring my score up. I want to get a 950 next time, which I am confident I will.

SP:
You are a confident person it seems. I know this from covering you at the skills camp.

LM:
Yes I am. </td></tr></tbody> </table>
