Mathis Profile

Andre Mathis, Jr., a 6'2", 220 lb., 4.55/40 linebacker/tight end from Erie (Cathedral Prep), PA is getting a good amount of early interest from a variety of programs, aside from Penn State, like Michigan, Iowa, Miami, West Virginia, Syracuse and Ohio State.

Andre (left, Cathedral Prep) is predicted to be among one of the most highly recruited Pennsylvania prosepcts this year. He was honored this past season as a second team All-State selection at linebacker. He was also honored as a first team All-Metro selection this past year and was an honorable mention on the All-Pennsylvania Football News Class AAA team.
He rolled up an impressive 88 tackles this past season, 36 more than any other teammate of his. He is said to be very agile and aggressive on pursuits. This agility and quickness is illustrated by the fact he competes in the 400 meter dash for Cathedral Prep's track team. Despite missing significant parts of two games this past season he also had 2.5 sacks and forced two fumbles.

He led his the Cathedral defense this year, helping to pave the road for his team to progress all the way to the Pennsylvania state western semi-finals.

According to TheInsiders reports that Penn State has apparently offered Andre a scholarship. It is anticipated that the Nittany Lions are looking at him early on as a linebacker prospect, but given his athletic abilities he could succeed on defense at linebacker or offense at tight end.

2.82...engineering major....I don't think so.....I speak from personal experience...not that I wanted to major in engineering... I hope Mr. Mathis becomes a Buckeye and proves me wrong about the engineering degree

According to the latest update Mathis is listing Tennecheat, Ohio State and PSU as his top 3 and will visit those schools unoffically this summer. scUM wants him to camp up there but Mathis claims he will not be camping anywhere this summer. This would be a nice get considering this is not a great year for linebackers in state.

Thanks for the update Nutty

It is interesting that scUM has alienated Cushing and Mathis all in the same recruiting season. Both of those prospects had scUM as a strong no. 1 when the recruiting season started.

Who says you can't take pleasure in others misery?

In the latest update Mathis stated scUM has dropped down his list and he has not been in touch with the staff lately. He was not able to make it to their summer camp but mentioned if they offered he'd consider them. He mentioned he wants to play the Mike in college. There could be an opening here after a redshirt year.
