'05 OH LB Aaron Merrill (Youngstown State track signee)

A nice story on a player who was not heavily recruited; Aaron was named Male Student Athlete of the Year by WYTV, channel 33 in Youngstown:

Aaron Merrill, Leetonia

Aaron played every play for four years for the Bears football team as the starting fullback, linebacker, punter and kicker. He broke 19 school records and was the first player in Tri-County League history to be named First Team All League all four seasons. Merrill was named All Ohio and the D-6 Player of the Year as a senior, and led Leetonia to it's first playoff win in school history. Aaron also went to the State Track and Field meet in back to back seasons in both the shot put and the discus, placing in the top 10 every trip. Merrill took all advanced placement courses and finished with a 3.95 GPA. Aaron will compete in track and field at Youngstown State and study criminal justice.
