Aaron Lewis is an impressive defensive lineman on film. The senior to be from Albuquerque (N.M.) La Cueva High School is now 6-4 and 262 pounds and he runs consistently in the 4.6 range. Last year as a junior he had a stellar season, racking up 89 tackles, 25 1/2 sacks (state record), five passes broken up, two blocked punts, one blocked field goal, and two fumble recoveries. These are impressive numbers for anyone, especially for a guy that gets double teamed on a consistent basis.

"I think I have good speed and strength," said Lewis. "I take on the OLs. I love it when they send two sometimes three guys my way and I still make the play. That really hypes me up."

"I want to stay at defensive end. People see me at 260 or so pounds and they think I can't run like I do. But when you see me up close I have a lot more muscle than fat. I have huge legs and a big butt so my weight is a little deceptive."

And so is his speed.

Thus far, Lewis has one scholarship offer from New Mexico. But with the May Evaluation period now upon us things should pick up very nicely for Mr. Lewis.

"This is exciting and I hope things go well. Right now, I am open and I like Notre Dame. I am looking at playing time, the defensive ends these schools have, the coaching staffs and my major (engineering or business)."

Lewis plans on camping at FSU this summer. He would attend more camps but he has two family weddings to attend during the camp season. So to make up for that he plans on going out and making some unofficial visits to such schools as Texas,Georgia Tech, Alabama and others.

Lewis, who bench presses 310 pounds, squats 435 and power cleans 295, is also an accomplished track and field athlete. Last year he placed second in state in both the shot put and discuss. He also carries a 3.0 GPA and has scored a 21 on the ACT.

The Aaron Lewis Story

February 10, 2004

Aaron Lewis is going to be one of the top defensive linemen in the country next year and he has already been offered by the New Mexico Lobos.

Lewis (6-4, 265, 4.6) has gotten bigger, stronger, and faster since I saw him play back in September. This amazing athlete finished his junior season with a school record and New Mexico high school record for quarterback sacks in a single season with 25 and a half.

He not only set the New Mexico State Sack Record, he also helped lead his La Cueva team to a perfect season record and a New Mexico State Championship. In this great junior season, along with the impressive sack record, he also recorded 99 tackles of with 18 were solo, for a minus 44-yards in total losses, recovered three fumbles, one safety, blocked one punt, and had five five pass knock downs.

Also remember that he played about half of the games, because his team was so dominating, he rarely played in the fourth quarter and left the game many times in the third quarter. Think about his stats, if he could have played the entire game for the whole season.

He seems to have it all. He bench presses around 325-pounds and squats around 425-pounds. His favorite schools include Florida State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Michigan, North Carolina, and New Mexico. New Mexico has already offered, while others are on the way.

The Original Aaron Lewis Story

October 15, 2003

Aaron Lewis (6-3, 255, 4.8) of Albuquerque La Cueva, New Mexico will be one of the most dominating two-way linemen in the country as a senior. If he lived in the Dallas or Houston area, he would be on every recruiting list in the country. Before I left Albuquerque, after a three-week vacation, I saw this kid play twice and he was the best player on the defensive side of the field in both games.

He could have also been selected to the All-State team on offense. In his recent game, he recorded 9 tackles, a sack, and two quarterback pressures. After seven games, Lewis was the defensive team leader in every tackle category for a team that had only given-up seven points for the entire seven game season.

He also had recorded 38 tackles, 14 sacks, 25 quarterback pressures, caused two fumbles, and recovered two fumbles. He is also on schedule to break the 52 sack career record.

In the latest Insiders update he says he wants to play in the Big Ten or ACC. The five schools that he will take official visits to include Texas, Georgia Tech, New Mexico, Ohio State and Florida State.

He was one of 13 Dlineman that made Lemmings top 100 for '05

In the last Insiders update it mentioned Lewis wanted to visit Ohio State and scUM unofficially this summer but his family doesn't think they will be able to make it. ArtesiaBuckDog lives in New Mexico and may be able to give us an update if we become a player for Lewis down the road.

This is the kind of players I love to see doning a Buckeye uniform! He does have the look of an agressive DE, and he has the size and speed to be a great one here. I hope we go after him agreesively...may be the latest great DEs from the Buckeye land whom are playing in the NFL can help persuave him to come. Any idea how much of an interest we have of this monster DE?

The Insiders update today mentions Ohio State's interest in Lewis has picked up lately but didn't really say to what extent. From what I've read Florida State will be tough to beat if and when they offer.

In the latest from Insiders-premium .....

Lewis lists his fav's as Texas, Texas Tech, Florida State, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State and New Mexico. But he is does not mention that he will camp at tOSU or visit this summer. Sounds like a long shot- especially with the Williams commit.

DL Wants An FSU Offer

Jun 21, 2004

By Dave Peters

In two weeks defensive lineman Aaron Lewis of Albuquerque (NM) La Cueva will fly across the country in order to attend Florida State’s football camp hoping to get an offer from one of his favorite teams. The 6-foot-4 and 260 pound standout has also attended the University of Texas football camp along with an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech’s campus.

“I’m going to attend Florida State’s camp on June 7th,” he said. “I’m hoping to persuade them to give me a scholarship offer. If Florida State does, then they would be one of my top choices.”

The Seminoles have been rumored to be his favorite team all along and he’s just waiting on an offer before he pulls the trigger. How close is he to actually making a decision?

“I want to make all of my official visits before I make a decision,” he said. “I what to be able to meet with the coaches one on one and to see more of each school’s campus. I’m probably taking my visits in July or August. I would like to watch a practice.”

Recently, Lewis attended the Longhorns football camp and he came away with an offer.

“It went real well,” he said. “They offered me a full-ride. The facilities there are great, the coaches are real nice and the players seem to be real happy.”

Last Thursday he was in Atlanta on unofficial visit to Georgia Tech. How did that go?

“It was real nice,” he said. “They have great facilities and a good business school.”

He bench presses 310, squats 435 and power cleans 295.

Lewis, who is an excellent student, should have no problems qualifying academically.

He earned a spot on the all- first state team as a junior by recording 89 tackles, 25 1/2 sacks (state record), five passes broken up, two blocked punts, one blocked field goal, and two fumble recoveries.

sounds like Lewis got the FSU offer he was looking for

A first-hand look at the size and speed combination of Aaron Lewis quickly transformed into an offer from the FSU coaching staff Thursday at the Seminole football camp. And first-hand look at the Florida State campus and facilities - among other things - turned the Lewis family into instant fans.

Lewis heads back to New Mexico after the camp's first session with a decision to make - one that father Jerry Lewis says should be wrapped up in about two weeks.

"Right now Aaron is on such an emotional high that we all thought it was best to wait a couple of weeks in order to make a thoughful decision," the elder Lewis told the The Territory.

Lewis said Friday that head coach Bobby Bowden personally tendered the offer for the full ride and described long-time head man as "energetic and full of life."

"I was hoping to get an offer when I came here and I'm fortunate that this happened," Lewis said.

Lewis clocked a 4.68 Wednesday afternoon in testing and hopes to play defensive end at the next level. Not bad for a 260-pounder who recently squatted 440 pounds.

"They really like his combination of size and speed," said Jerry Lewis.

And the Lewis family was impressed with the surroundings. On Thursday, every FSU assistant present at the camp made thier way over to speak with the family for a few moments. Later in the day, Mr. Lewis sported a garnet FSU baseball cap.

"The meeting went real well," he said. "It's a blessed day. Florida State is one of the most storied programs in the nation, so to get an offer is an honor."

Also on the table for Lewis are offers from Texas, Texas Tech, Georgia Tech and New Mexico. As junior, Lewis racked up 89 tackles a state-record 25.5 sacks, three blocked kicks and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Lewis gets the offer he was hoping for

One of the best parts of summer camps, like the one put on by Florida State every July, is when a player comes in and impresses the coaching staff enough to earn a scholarship offer. That's exactly what happened for Albuquerque, New Mexico's Aaron Lewis. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive end recently earned offers from Texas and Georgia Tech, and on Friday the 'Noles were added to the list. It probably didn't his stock in the eyes of the coaching staff that he was clocked running a 4.69 40-yard dash during Wednesday's testing.

Lewis was one of the top DEs at FSU's summer camp.
Over the last couple weeks the Lewis' family have made trips to Austin (TX), Atlanta (Ga.) and Tallahassee (Fla.) to attend summer camps. During this time the family car has racked up nearly 2,000 miles. On Saturday morning they packed up and will begin the long drive back to New Mexico. But it was all worth it according to the all-state defensive end.

"It was mainly for me to get around to the campuses and see what they are like," Lewis said of his trips. "I wanted to come and see the coaches in person, see the character and moral of the team, see the campuses and the stadiums."

As for the past couple days at Florida State, it couldn't have gone better.

"I love it," Lewis said. "It's a great stadium - it's huge. I like the stuff they do on the outside with the bricks and the new facilities. The coaches were awesome. They are always upbeat and happy."

After getting an offer, hitting it off with the coaches and being awed by the campus, FSU is now a major player for his services, but there will be some competition. In addition to FSU, Lewis lists Texas, Georgia Tech, and Texas Tech as other schools he has a strong interest in. But it does sound like two schools are leading the way.

"Florida State and Texas, they are on the top right now," Lewis said. "I like them a little more."

Lewis says he hopes to make his decision on a college sometime next month.

As a junior, Lewis was a first team All-State, All-City and All-District selection last year as both a defensive end and offensive tackle, recording 88 tackles and 25 sacks. He is fully qualified and carries a 3.0 GPA in the classroom.
