From RivalsHoops.com...Jared has visited BC and plans to visit some more schools after his season is complete. His stock has really shot up lately, as he has become stronger and has developed his inside game.

Jared is ready to move forward with his recruiting process. He is ready to start setting up official visits, he would like to visit both North Carolina and Georgia Tech. Carter is not sure about setting up an official visit with Kentucky. Jared has already visited Boston College and states that Illinois is still in the mix.

The Kentucky Wildcats have struck again, this time in their home state. Late Thursday night, word leaked out that Jared Carter committed to play for the homestate Wildcats.

It’s all over.

The top unsigned center prospect in the Class of 2006 will play his college basketball at Kentucky.

“It is true,” Jeff Carter, Jared Carter’s father said Friday morning. “We talked to Tubby yesterday afternoon in St. Louis and he committed to UK to play ball.”

The 7-foot-1 center that ran with the Derek Smith All-Stars and rapidly improved during his senior season picked the Wildcats over North Carolina, Illinois, Boston College, Georgia Tech and Western Kentucky.

“He came a long way,” Jeff Carter said. “He put in a lot of work and he came a lot further than my expectations and mine were high anyway. He’s done very well. The other colleges thought so too or they wouldn’t be hounding us to death.”

As a senior, Carter set the state record for blocks with 200. On the year he averaged 16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 blocks. His numbers dramatically increased from his junior campaign when he averaged just 5 points and 5 boards.

The timing of the commitment caught most by surprise as it was widely thought that North Carolina was going to receive at least an official visit. "He was telling me yesterday that 'it’s such a relief to get it off my shoulders'. When you come down to North Carolina and Kentucky … thousands of kids would like to have that problem. He’s very excited about this." Carter’s addition gives Kentucky a two-man recruiting class as the Wildcats re-upped guard Adam Williams who spent this past season at prep school.

It would be great to add a big guy to help Dials in the post next year, but the odds are dropping pretty fast right now.
