Not sure if anyone remembers Erik Lorig, the #8 TE in the country according to Scout, but he was the guy who was so torn between his final 4 schools (USC, UCLA, Cal, & Stanford) that he bypassed NLOID for more time to consider. Well, he finally decided last week to attend Stanford, but missed the school's May 2nd deadline for all incoming freshman paperwork...so they refused to take him.
He is now set to decide between USC and Cal as he eliminated UCLA.
By far the wierdest recruiting saga I've ever witnessed. He didn't start considering where to go until a week before signing day. He didn't sign on signing day. Since NLOID, his parents have said at least 3 times that a decision was imminent. Rumors surfaced that he had told Tedford that he was going to sign with Cal, but he never did. Two weeks or so ago he revisits all four schools (UCLA, USC, Cal, and Stanford). Signing period closed a few weeks ago, so he can't sign an NLOI. He'll have to sign a scholarship agreement wherever he goes. I guess he told Stanford he was going to commit, but waited a few days to send in the paperwork and now cant go because he missed Stanford's deadline for freshmen to enroll.
He's a very versatile prospect who could play a number of positions depending on where he goes. He's just got this Hamlet problem.

Doesn't exactly sound like Stanford material to me...anyone with a degree of smarts would've known when he had to have put in paperwork at each of those schools.
As of a week ago PC still wanted him, and USC has a scholarship open for him. I don't think he was being looked at to fill a pressing need, so I guess some patience can be afforded. It's not like that scholarship can be offered to anyone close to Lorig's caliber this late in the process, and it wouldn't customarily be given to a walkon until Fall camp anyway.
Of course, most of the posters from all four schools are sick of him. I hope USC doesn't bend over backwards for the kid, but I don't have any problem waiting for a little while longer.
Just to get some closure in the thread, Erik signed his scholarship offer to Stanford this week. There was no mention of the missed deadline as reported earlier. Strange scenario to say the least.
