05-06 Starting Lineup?

Just wondering what people figure our starting five will look like this year. I'm certain it's already been considered, but hey - I'm excited about the hoops season. Sue me. I'll go with

Butler
Foster
Sullinger
Syl
Dials

with Lewis, Harris and Mayes first off the bench.

I still think they bring Syl off the bench. He didn't start a game for the Bucks last year. Dials, JJS, and Ivan Harris were the only Buckeyes to start every game.

Last year, we had 8 guys average over 19 minutes a game (Butler, JJS, Dials, Harris, BFC, Stockman, Foster, Syl). It would be great to get a few more guys in the rotation so we'll be fresh down the stretch. With only 10 guys on the roster (and on scholarship) as of now, we also have to hope we stay injury-free.

Backcourt-wise, I'm not worried about our depth. The additions of Ron Lewis and Sylvester Mayes help solidify an already solid group. I sure hope Twig comes into his own this year and can help take some strain off Terrence in the paint. That goes for Brayden Bell too. Two post players will not get it done in the Big 10, especially with the graduation of Matt Marinchick.

PG: Jamar Butler
SG: Ron Lewis
SF: J.J. Sullinger
PF: Ivan Harris
C: Terrence Dials

Foster would be probably be next off the bench. Him and Syl could be interchangeable depending on what lineup Matta wants to go to.

I don't think it will look the same at game twenty as it does at game one. I don't think it is far-fetched to see a starting lineup which includes all three of the players you have listed as coming off the bench. Foster and Sylvester just strike me as solid role-playing subs. It will depend on the progress of the two newbies. Pretty sure that Butler and Dials are going to be there.

If 8 guys are getting 20 minutes a game, then I guess the starting lineup is just for looks. Who will get the most minutes overall? I'm going to guess that Mayes ends up with more than Butler, but we'll have to see him in real action to know.

This team could be fun to watch, no doubt.

PG: Jamar Butler
SG: Ja'Kel Foster
SF: J.J. Sullinger
PF: Ivan Harris
C: Terrance Dials

With Ron Lewis, Sylverster Mayes, and Matt Sylvester coming off the bench?? Unreal.

Ja'Kel proved to be a valuable leader late in the season, and I like Matty S a lot more when he comes off the bench for an added spark. I'm very interested to see what kind of chemistry Lewis and Mayes bring to this team before I add them in my lineup. Interested to see how Terwilliger and Bell develop during this season too.

I'll be curious to see where the rebounding comes from. Obviously, Dials is a solid rebounder and the guards seem to do a pretty nice job, but I am a little concerned about the lack of a big, strong power forward who can muck it up in the paint.

Harris really needs to learn how to rebound. That would go a long way towards solidifying his starting position. Otherwise, I agree that Syl should start. The only thing I see different from your line-up is I think Lewis will just blow us away in the pre-season and earn a starting job quickly. No offense to Je'Kel because I love his hustle and leadership. But I've heard Lewis is awesome.

Lewis is awesome - caught a couple glimpses of him at Worthington over the summer. Just an incredible scorer. I don't know how he is defensively though, since defense and Worthington go together like pickles and peanut butter. Je'Kel (a.k.a. 'The Doctor'...Dr. Je'Kel...Mr. Hyde...get it? Whatever, shut up) is great on D, but I don't know. Lewis may be too good to not start. Either way, I think we have 7-8 guys getting ~20 mpg again this year.

I would have to go with....

Butler or Mayes
Lewis
Sullinger
Sylvester
Dials

I don't think Sylvester will come off the bench this year, they will need someone to provide a spark off the bench besides Foster. Obviously, Terwigler will have to provide some minutes this year.

Harris will not see much time until he learns to rebound and play solid defense.

PG: Butler - having taken the job from a senior as a true frosh I don't see him looking back
SG: Foster becoming Lewis later in the year with Foster becoming a great 6th man
SF: Sullinger
PF: Harris if he finally develops as I have always dreamed, otherwise becoming Syl
C: Dials until Terwilliger takes the job away from him

IMO the wild card is Mayes. If he is good enough Lewis could be getting most of his minutes from Sullinger with Mayes and Foster splitting time.

OK, just kidding about Terwilliger

I hear Twigs is coming along very nicely.

Re: Syl - I think he's dangerous whether he starts or not. I'd just like to see him get introduced in the pregame.

I also heard this. I heard he has dedicated everything to bball. I am looking for big things from him.

Also I like the upside of Bell, hopefully he can help.

As for the starting lineup I will go with

PG - Butler
SG - Lewis
SF - Sullinger
PF - Harris
C - Dials
