02-08 CB comparison

This one's fairly close.

I might lean toward '02 since Fox should have been played at safety, plus they had a Heisman candidate in the defensive backfield before he got injured (Richard McNutt). :wink2:

I Like '08

Jenkins might not be quite as flashy as Gamble (although he has a few TDs to his credit as well), but he is a lock down corner, who is very solid in run support. I think DWash is an upgrade over Dustin Fox in coverage department, not sure if he is as solid a tackler.

The depth goes to '08 once again. Chekwa and Amos are both starter material.

remember Gamble was moved to CB out of necessity that worked out pretty damn well.

After voting "toss up" initially, I'm starting to reconsider. I havn't seen MJ make the big game changing/saving INT like Gamble did so many times in '02. In fact the secondary the past 2 years has a well earned rep for dropping INT's more than ball hawking.

So if Gamble>Jenkins and Fox=Washington then its a slight edge to '02.

really? what about this one? PSU with the ball down by a score, 2:49 left in the game

for those of you putting Gamble ahead of Jenkins, watch the open field tackles and stuffs on running plays in this video, and then think back to Gamble's contribution in run-support

one of my favorite Jenkins plays was the tackle on H20-4 at the 0:45 mark

08 I really think it's close between Jenkins and Gamble. And I already like Washington over Fox. I didn't remember that Salley was playing corner, but I still think that Chekwa and Amos are as solid as can be for depth. I expect both will be starting next year after this years guys go pro. I like Washington to be a 2nd Round Pick (maybe 3rd). I'm not really sure I believe there's a better group of corners in CFB than what the Buckeyes have now.

Exactly what I had thought about before you'd even posted the video, which was why I'd already voted for the '08 corners.

Gamble got some game changing INTs because QBs weren't shy about throwing his direction. CG made some big plays, but he gave up some big plays too.

MJ makes the most of his opportunities, which is good since QBs have pretty much avoided Jenkins completely for the past two years. Lets face it, it was so bad in 06 that the staff was forced to move Jenkins in 07 just so the league couldn't pick on somebody else.

As this is a CB discussion and not a secondary discussion, I cannot penalize MJ and D-Wash for the fact that Coleman and A-Russ were both born with 10 thumbs.

I think the 2002 safeties are going to be a landslide, and the 2002 secondary as a complete unit probably wins overall, but if we're only doing the corners, I'm taking '08, especially given the backups (Chekwa, Amos) would be starting anywhere else.

UC, Wisky, PSU, Purdue '02 off the top of my head.

4 > 1

I know you think everyone on the '08 team is the best at his position in the history of OSU football but you need to get a grip.

Couple of things:

The picks he made to put away the Purdue and PSU games were not thrown to his man, he came off his guy and grabbed them both.

If Fox was as bad as everyone likes to say why were they throwing at Gamble?

Head to head for an entire game Andre Johnson from Miami had 1 catch. I can't think of a single WR of that caliber MJ has shut down like that.

True, however its much easier to erase the deep option when your DLine is on the QB's jock in two seconds. Jenkins has not had that benefit.
