General Thoughts:
Another solid class. While lacking a bunch of elite top 50 types, I really think the middle of this class is as good as it’s been in awhile and is full of guys who have the potential to become stars.
On offense it was another outstanding haul at QB and WR. Getting Brown...
Here’s my concern, and then I’ll be done. My concern is that a few years from now the OL room is facing the same issues the DB room did last year and into this one. Sure you have skilled guys that can develop down the road, but you’re lacking the top-end talent that can step in and play...
Again, if you can’t see the difference between a player ranked around 300 compared to 700-1000 I just don’t know what to tell you. You’re purposely being obtuse.
“Sure Stud missed on projects like Leroux, James and Toutant, but he nailed projects like Michalski, Fitzpatrick and Tshabola!”
I’m going to have to agree to disagree with you on this one. A “project” in my opinion is a kid like Avery, Trey Leroux, Jakob James, Dawand Jones, etc.
Do you view Michalski and Fitzpatrick, both of whom are ranked lower than Thayer, as projects?
Disagree.
Being ranked higher than any of our OT’s outside of NPF and Johnson with offers from the likes of Bama, UK, Miami, MSU, Minnesota, Tennessee and Pitt doesn’t scream “project” to me.
In 2020 six of the nine OL drafted in the first two rounds ranked as a 4 star or higher, with a 7th knocking on the door:
4 - 45
10 - 34
11 - 405
13 - 331
18 - 35
24 - 47
29 - 16
39 - 3212
58 - 1812
I think saying “see how low these guys were ranked” in terms of the draft is a bit of a straw man argument. The odds of a lower-ranked guy achieving individual success is going to be exponentially higher based on sheer numbers alone. Of course there’s going to be some lower ranked guys who...
I just looked for kicks and giggles, and was surprised just how well Wisconsin has been recruiting OL the last few classes:
Rucci - 5 star #16
Brown - 5 star #17
Brunner - 4 star #62
Wedig- 4 star #83
Nelson - 4 star #104
Benzchawel - 4 star #131
Mahlman - 4 star #141
Tippman - 4 star #325
