outside of Samuel (who honestly probably was too high as a 5-star) the others you mention slid down because of players below them moved up in the rankings. In order for Erick Smith to move way up like he did...the others that were ahead of him naturally slide down a tad.
in fairness to espn on this one...they apprarently haven't rated Hayes yet. His grade is a 46 and I'm pretty sure that means that they have film on him but haven't rated him to this point.
I like it when there's enough rankings out that someone ends up doing an average of all the rankings to get something of a consensus top 100 or 300. a bit of a better judge overall then. not that the rankings matter a ton...I do enjoy seeing how the state by state breakdowns vary by recruiting...
offering Jones a greyshirt would be insulting IMO. The Bucks either want him or they don't. and they don't have to decide on that right now or really in the near future, either.
just to add some context to this comment...here's how Rivals national guys rated Ohio's top 10s over the years...
2002
(no top 10 this year available..these were the Ohio kids in their national top 100)
1. Mike D'Andrea - Ohio State (undrafted)
2. Maurice Clarett - Ohio State (3rd round)
3...
it's cool that Turner allegedly still has his Buckeye offer according to this story...I don't understand why the 'source' for the story felt the need to be unnamed, though. This isn't the leaking of classified documents from the Pentagon...its a comment about a recruit. Big whoop. Takes away...
When it comes to early offers on in-state recruits, I'm going to believe in the analysis of OSU's coaches above anyone elses. Rightly or wrongly, I simply assume that when it comes to in-state kids, OSU's guys know them best...and better than anyone else. Not that they'll always be right...
nope...I'm not an amateur film analyst. Just try my best at connecting the dots to figure out what is going on and why things happen the way they do/did. I can't get terribly excited about a guy that was on his way to Prairie View before OSU first talked to him on a Wednesday and then offered...
I'm glad that some/many are high on Guiton. Like I said, I think the Bucks did well given the situation. Still doesn't change a thing about where Guiton himself said he'd likely be getting ready to play his ball right now had OSU not 'found' him late.
As for Welch...I don't care about ND. I...
given the situation OSU was in (and on some level put itself in IMO), getting a guy like Guiton at the 11th hour was about as good of a save as could be expected. Doesn't change the fact that, based on his own words, he thought he was Prairie View bound before OSU came calling.
And I chose...
good discussion. My concerns are similar to what rb07 has stated already. Mostly surrounding the timing of some of the offers. IMO it's not much of a coincidence that the top OOS guys that OSU seems to be in good shape with (Montana, Joyner, Corey Brown) are ones that got their offers very early...
was delving more into the oddities in ESPN's rankings and this is how those guys see the state of Ohio this year....
1. Barnett
2. I. Bell
3. Wood
4. Fellows
5. Mewhort
6. Hall
7. Turner
8. Simon
9. Hunter
10. Carradine
11. Linsley
12. Marrow
13. Touissaint
14. Kuechly
15. Penza (kicker)
16...
I still cannot get over Corey Brown being ranked the No. 40 ATH in the nation by ESPN. Not the No. 40 recruit overall in the nation. The 40th-ranked guy at the 'athlete' position. 2 spots behind Ohio's own Darrell Mason (not meaning to knock him...probably a decent rating from the little I know)...
Hall - I'll trust all the OSU guys on this one...
Boucher - seems like Boyd is going elsewhere...sounds like OSU wants a QB...
Green - forgot to vote for him...didn't think an OSU commit would be part of a 'who does OSU close with' poll and just overlooked his name...
other - whether it be...
I get a headache just looking at that calpreps site. The amount of data that they collect and put all in one place for someone who really doesn't feel like working today is pretty much evil. I could look at that stuff all day...
...anyway, how anyone can even somewhat accurately decide who the...
