I know you're saying Day, but so far as we're all aware, Arthur Smith is calling the entirety of the offense now.
Now it could be the offensive play calling took on the personality of Day, but I would think an experienced NFL OC would be able to resist that.
Which is why I'm cool with him moving on after the season. That was NFL prevent style bullshit that never ever seems to work even in the NFL. Fuck that noise entirely.
We will see it again at some point this season. Virtually guaranteed.
I didn't say I wanted him fired. Anyone who does is a fuckwit.
I did say - as did LJB - that I'm all the way out on defending him going forward, at least for a while. This was inexcusable and we've seen it far too many times over the years.
I'm not worried about him.
I'm worried about the 4 freshmen getting regular reps on defense. If they start to question what they're doing, there's no developed depth behind them to fill in.
I'm far more worried about the defense right now. Defense wins championships.
9-3 at best.
And that's if they don't choke away a game at USC or at Iowa. I think they will lose @ IU and I think Oregon gets them at home (despite what Oregon looked like today).
This team just showed it's glass jaw - if you keep it semi-close, they will play soft zone and let you get stuff...
I've defended Day more than most....this is entirely on him. His coordinators didn't help but ultimately the buck stops somewhere and it's firmly on his desk.
I don't fault him for the 4th down though. I still think that was the right call.
The 2nd half has been a disaster. There has to be...
