The other thing I see happening on this path to optimize profits is that the teams’ connections to their respective universities could become so attenuated that students/alumni lose their emotional attachment to the team. Not sure what effect that ultimately has on this new professional football...
I figured OSU would drop to 3 or 4 and UGA would move up to 2 after last Saturday. At the end of the day, I don't think it will make much difference though.
I think the answer is that the committee started with the result they wanted, then rationalized their selections by adjusting the evaluation criteria until it provided that result. In their defense, we all do this to some extent. Sometimes without even realizing it.
Coaches look at a stat that they are 11-16 on fourth down, and decide to go for it instead of kicking the field goal. But this ignores (1) you were 11-16 against lesser teams, and (2) it’s not fourth and goal.
Fuck Miami. Whatever else happens, if Duke wins tonight, and the ACC gets one bid, Duke should fill it. How can any other team in a conference get into the playoffs if the conference champion is left out? If the ACC’s championship team selection process is so fucked up that their “best” team...
Television money is driving the bus, so the championship games will continue. The SEC might change how the teams that play in the championship game are selected to make sure both are locks for the playoffs regardless of the outcome.
