You guys are right. Well, except for maybe giving into corporate bullshit capitalism part. I think that train left the station decades ago, and we all kind of give into it by continuing to watch the games.
I know I'm kind of reversing myself here, but once you get to at-large teams on the bubble, there's a decent argument for picking teams based on viewer interest. It's not like any of them are going to affect who the eventual champion is anyway. What's the point of a game that nobody will watch...
In 2012, Ohio had four teams in the sweet sixteen: Ohio State, Ohio, Xavier, and Cincinnati. This year, we might not get any teams into the tournament at all. Ohio State and Xavier are bubble teams, and Akron is currently projected as a 13 seed.
