Should be able to apply for a 6th year at the end of his eligibility at least. As long as he doesn't play at the end of the 2013 season. Healthy redshirt and medical redshirt are different things. Oklahoma QB Jason White was granted a 6th year IIRC, for example.

He applied for a medical RS. No word yet on if it has been approved by the NCAA. Barring something ridiculous from them, he should get it with no trouble. Wouldn't be shocked either way since this is the NCAA we're talking about.
