This is absolutely the way it should be, but of course they will push to keep OSU and Michigan separate for their own gain.
My biggest concern with expansion is the greater likelihood of the other schools pushing us into lose our identity/traditions. Gerry Dinardo was on the other day whining...
The question is where/if they will have the skull session at all.
The new building is not being put in St John's place, they are going to stuff it over at the corner of Fred Taylor and Ackerman road.
I suppose they could hold the Skull Session at the Schott..that is a bit more of a hike..it...
Like in the previous split, I don't think logistics would/should have anything to do with it. These are football divisions after all, travel is not a huge issue.
The argument for keeping Rutgers and Maryland together would be more of an attempt to pitch them as rival..but a protected rivalry...
I highly doubt this is true, it was enough of a push just to get them to carry it in the original Big Ten states originally..the cable companies wouldn't have signed away their rights for further negotiation, they too have people employed smart enough to realize that further expansion was a...
Yeah, it doesn't make a lot of sense why they needed to walk by that door though, they could have just happened across it later on their walk..not like the audience really has a grasp of the prison layout
That is not necessarily true, that will have to be negotiated before these cable companies try to pass on this expense to their subscribers. It isn't clear the Big Ten will have the leverage to pull this off, obviously they believe that they can.
Don't see any reason why he's wrong, Mizzou is a relevant program in their area.
Maryland and Rutgers are not. The assumption that people will care just because they are in the Big Ten now is ridiculously unfounded. They'll have a bit more money to work with sure, but not the type of money...
The key word being "if we can develop them" and I'm not really sure there is a TON of evidence that will be the case. I mean it's not like these 2 are honestly going to be competing for conference titles, without any sort of significant success I don't see how they are going to make more...
The assumption is being made that they CAN bring that viewing. The BTN will still have to negotiate itself into those markets..and Rutgers is not the Yankees. The move doesn't come without risk although the powers that be obviously think that they can make this happen.
Football IS the big picture, there is no quicker or better way to improve your conferences brand then to bring in big time football programs. Its only because the BIG doesnt have a ton of obvious options that we are taking in these "project" programs on the hopes they can turn on some TV's that...
That is hopefully the twisted plan.
I mean as it stands, shaking apart the ACC seems great on paper, except it doesn't turn into that great of a deal when we are getting schools like Maryland and Rutgers while the Big 12 is adding programs like FSU and Clemson.
Of course Notre Dame's run...
Enough to matter THAT much though?
I mean we've had the extra revenue from the Big Ten network for quite a few years now. What has been the on field benefit for the Big Ten been as a whole?
The arguement that these schools may be more aggressive towards building up their football programs...
