You realize of course that those 2 losses set us back for nearly a decade, right?
Every year since the LSU loss until 2014, we had to contend with perceived inferiority on both the recruiting trail and in rankings. Just look at 2014 - we just barely snuck into the playoffs, and people were...
Conversely, we very likely get shut out in the playoffs, simultaneously ruining our reputation and any committee benefit of the doubt going forward for years while also hurting recruiting.
For everyone mentioning Alabama, do you honestly, objectively think we beat Bama 1v1 this year?
I've watched a lot of Alabama over the past few years (more than I've ever wanted to), and let me tell you - there is only 1 way a game against them can end if we play a non-passing QB.
Congratulations to JT and the Buckeyes.
He's a great guy, an amazing leader, and an even better teammate. He put his body and his knee on the line every game. Doesn't change my thoughts on his passing skills, but at least we'll be proud of him after he graduates.
I mean, I've been saying that since the Michigan game last year. But let's face it - it's literally never going to happen.
On field performance doesn't matter, JT is the quarterback - no matter how he or anyone else plays.
"Will Ohio State fumble yet again and give Wisconsin more points? Can JT Barrett complete this 5 yard screen? How many commercials can you fit into 1 game? Find out tonight, on FOX!"
Then develop another QB.
The head coach of a top 3 program should be able to develop or find a QB capable of completing a freaking 5 yard pass. Period. There are high schools with better track records.
No, they most definitely could not hang with Oklahoma - the only playoff-bound team they played.
Yeah we barely edged out an above-average Penn State team, and we're trying our hardest not to shoot ourselves in the foot (yet again!) against Wiscy. Impressive.
Let me spell it out.
If we lose 31-0 in the playoffs this year - the 3rd consecutive shutout for a Big Ten team, may I add - no Big Ten team will ever get the benefit of the doubt again, when it comes to the committee.
Plain and simple.
Urban is an amazing motivator and recruiter, and yes - he set records with Tebow. But I question his current offensive mindset.
The game has changed a lot in the past 10 years.
In this day and age, you can't win against elite teams with non-passing QBs. I'm not sure how we can finally break...
We've cleaned staff like 4x in Urban's tenure, and the only time we've had a competent passing game remains the 2014 playoff run. Strange, no?
With regards to ST and WR coaching, I would love some staff changes but that hasn't happened in 6 years and I don't see it happening now.
I agree, but Bama has 10 straight years of #1 recruiting classes such that they know they will always have more talent than the team they're playing.
Regardless of their QB, they will out-talent and out-depth whomever they play 100% of the time and win 95% of the time.
We don't have that luxury
Dude put in the work to win 100K and not have to deal with student loans for the rest of his life.
Isn't this America, land of the bootstraps and what not?
