What @cincibuck said - if anything, getting out after 5 years as a Naval Academy grad and as a Captain indicates he was told in no uncertain terms he wouldn't be getting his field grade lobotomy and advancing to Major. Officers don't just quit for no reason.

Kid is 17. Theoretically he could still be growing especially in the year+ since the post that listed him as 6 foot even.
