Dallas Cowboys seek resolution to Terry Glenn saga

IRVING ? While Jerry Jones does not have a hard deadline for finalizing the Terry Glenn saga, the Cowboys owner and general manager has Thursday's departure for California in mind.

The Cowboys have asked Glenn, 34, to accept a split salary of $500,000 should he re-injure his right knee this season. He is scheduled to make $1.74 million. Because the two sides did not reach an agreement, Glenn, who saw limited action in only one regular-season game in 2007 after two surgeries on the knee, did not take part in any of the organized team activities or the minicamp in the off-season.

The Cowboys could place Glenn on the physically unable to perform list even if an agreement is reached. He would not be allowed to practice until passing a physical, but he could take part in meetings.

Cowboys near move on Glenn
From staff and wire reports

The Cowboys continue to discuss what they are going to do with receiver Terry Glenn. Sources said the situation will be resolved before the team charter departs for training camp in Oxnard, Calif., on Thursday and releasing the veteran remains an option.

Glenn, 33, has not practiced in the off-season because he refused to sign an injury waiver. The waiver would reduce his salary from $1.74 million to $500,000 in the event of a season-ending injury to his damaged right knee.

The Cowboys could release Glenn if they don?t feel the risk is worth it. The sides could still find a middle ground to allow the veteran receiver another shot at playing. ? Mac Engel

Dallas Cowboys' Glenn, Jerry Jones need to reach compromise
Tuesday, July 22, 2008

It's hard to believe the relationship between Terry Glenn and the Cowboys is going to end over essentially $1.2 million.

But it looks that way because we're dealing with two stubborn people in Glenn and Jerry Jones ? and each thinks he's right.

After paying Glenn more than $5 million for four plays last season, Jerry wants insurance that the same thing doesn't happen again. That's why he wants Glenn to sign an injury waiver that would pay him $500,000 if he were placed on injured reserve because of his right knee.

Ridiculous.

It shouldn't be that hard for two people to reach an agreement. All it takes is compromise. How hard can that be?

What about an injury waiver for $950,000, which would protect both parties? As I said, it shouldn't be that hard to get a deal done.

After all, they need each other.

Jerry needs another receiver capable of being a No.1 receiver in case Terrell Owens gets hurt and misses significant time. Glenn, near the end of his career, would like another payday at the end of his career.

If Terry and Jerry are smart, they'll find a way to get a deal done before the first practice on Friday.

Decision on Dallas Cowboys' Glenn expected today
Thursday, July 24, 2008
By CALVIN WATKINS [email protected] / The Dallas Morning News

OXNARD, Calif. ? The drama surrounding Terry Glenn should come to an end today.

The Cowboys wide receiver did not join the team for the start of training camp, but he's being counted on the roster.

Owner and general manager Jerry Jones spoke with Glenn's agent, James Gould, Thursday and said a decision should come today.

Glenn has refused to agree to a split salary that would give him $500,000 should he re-injure his right knee and cost him the rest of the season. Glenn missed 15 games of the 2007 season because of two surgeries to the knee.

The Cowboys have told Glenn he will be released if he doesn't sign the deal.

Jones said he hasn't ruled out looking for another veteran wide receiver.

"We've got opportunities," Jones said. "This thing just starts as far as people making a trade or something like that, so a lot of things can happen at a lot of these positions."

The Cowboys could put Glenn on the physically unable to perform list, which is for players coming off injury.

Last season, Dallas put offensive linemen Flozell Adams and Marc Colombo on the PUP list during training camp. By the time camp ended, both were off the list and playing.

Jones said the financial commitment to Glenn ? he's scheduled to make $1.74 million in base salary this season ? isn't a concern.

In the off-season, the Cowboys spent $58.9 million in signing bonuses to re-sign five Pro Bowl players.

"I think the reason you get to spend money is because you're concerned about lesser money," Jones said. "You can't have it all. It may look inconsistent but it's not."

Glenn says he will take split contract; Cowboys still contemplating it
ESPN.com news services

Updated: July 25, 2008

Wide receiver Terry Glenn says he's accepted the concept of signing a split contract with the Dallas Cowboys but team owner Jerry Jones remains undecided on whether to bring the veteran receiver back under those terms.

Under the terms of the new deal, the oft-injured receiver will not be paid his entire $1.7 million salary should he reinjure his right knee, Glenn told ESPN's Ed Werder.

However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hasn't decided if he wants to take a chance on Glenn, according to Werder. Jones has not told Glenn if he should report to camp or expect to be released.

Jones is reportedly concerned about depth at the wide receiver position beyond Terrell Owens. Others in the Cowboys' organization are worried about Glenn's health. He was one topic in a team staff meeting on Thursday.

"Hopefully, this gets worked out. Jerry holds the key," Glenn told Werder.

Dallas Cowboys to release Glenn but keep options open
Friday, July 25, 2008

OXNARD, Calif. - After months of haggling, the Dallas Cowboys decided Friday to part ways with veteran receiver wide Terry Glenn but not necessarily close the door.

The Cowboys will release Glenn, but should his conditioning improve, the team would like to revisit the possibility of bringing him back in the fold at some point. Of course, Glenn would also have the chance to sign with another team.

"We will see what's down the road when we have a chance to go through the whole preseason," said Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones. "If things go like we hope for Terry and like we hope for us, then you've got another decision to look at."

The Cowboys not only had concern about Glenn's knee and the financial commitment, but they also wondered if he would stop the progress of their younger receivers like Sam Hurd, Miles Austin and Isaiah Stanback.

The Cowboys asked Glenn to agree to a split-salary agreement in case he reinjured his right knee during the season, but the veteran was unwilling to take a pay cut.

He was scheduled to make $1.74 million this season.

The move ends four months of discussions regarding Glenn and his future. The team thought it had an agreement with Glenn in April, but he relented and was kept out of the organized team activities and minicamp. At one point, Glenn fired his long-time agent, Jim Gould, only to rehire him last month.

Regardless of how this situation would turn out for Terry, Jerry Jones will STILL and ALWAYS be one of those "SCUM" owners I detest. I am SO fucking sick of seeing his slimy, used car salesman smirk on national TV.

There should be a special place in hell for people like Jones and Mike Brown.

Jerry Jones is easily one of the top 5 owners in sports - he does whatever he can to put a winner on the field.

Well, that's just a difference in opinion, then. You can put a winner on the field consistently without being over-bearing & borderline pschotic, much like Jones. Considering my strong disdain for new england "spy-triot", bob kraft has this "owner" thing pretty much all figured out. Kraft trusts his coach's keen ability to evaluate talents. Kraft trusts his front office to make the right personnel moves accordingly. He trusts the people he hired on to do the job they were asked to do. He does not fancy himself to be the coach, the general manager AND the owner. Other model examples: the Rooneys of Pittsburgh Steelers; Jim Irsay of Indianapolis Colts.

Jones is an entertainer, much like Authur Blank (the "manservant" act during the '03 season, pushing Vick, who was on the wheel chair, out to the sideline). Sure, he has had some "glory days" back in the '90's, but who gives a fuck! He is a car salesman who happens to have a lot of money to be able to own a professional football team.

I completely discount the patriots accomplishments after this whole cheating scandal....

much like the whole steroid era stats for certain ballplayers, or people using a corked bat - once a cheat....everything you do is in doubt.

anyway - the rooneys are ok, albeit overly conservative.

i like to compare jerry jones to dan snyder --both spend crazy money, however only jerry puts a winner on the field and doesnt expect an aging bruce smith/ deion/ etc to win games

poor skins fans. nah...i pity them.

so, no answer to how he was psychotic here? Jones can be meddlesome, but does a fine job as an owner. I fail to see how this is relevant to waiving Glenn, when he's on retirement's doorstep (if he ahsn't already checked in).

they've been doing better lately, before the monumental Taylor trade. I think that trend may coincide with letting their staff actually run things, including draft day (and look at that, they trade down and get great value for 3 first round talents with much less salary to pay).

Terry Glenn likely headed to Miami
By MAC [email protected]

OXNARD, Calif. -- Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terry Glenn is expected to sign with the Miami Dolphins in the next few days, according to two sources.

Glenn was waived by the Cowboys on Friday.

In Miami, the veteran receiver will be reunited with Bill Parcells and several other former Dallas coaches and players. Parcells, the Dolphins executive vice president for football operations, coached Glenn in New England and in Dallas.

Before being released by Dallas, Glenn had not practiced in the off-season because he refused to sign an injury waiver for his surgically repaired right knee. The two sides never came to terms and the Cowboys decided to go in another direction. Owner Jerry Jones hinted last week that he might bring Glenn back, but that appears unlikely now.
